-- house Republicans are trying to pressure senate Democrats to pass a budget.
For the first time in almost four years.
Now the Republicans have unveiled a bill to suspend the debt limit with a vote set for as early as Wednesday.
Details of that legislation include this suspension of the debt -- for three months.
On the nineteenth of may the debt limit would be automatically increase from sixteen point four trillion to accommodate.
Any additional marring the treasury requires.
The bill also wouldn't withhold the -- of lawmakers.
If congress fails to pass a budget by the fifteenth of April putting of that money in escrow.
So as to.
Well from comply with the Tories seven member of the constitution.
Joining us now is congressman -- Omer.
Member of the House Judiciary Committee vice chair the subcommittee on crime terrorism and Homeland Security.
And Republican attacks it's good to have you with us the first your impressions before we turn to the debt leverage of the president's and -- rural address.
-- -- -- -- It off -- today quoting from in the declaration.
From our founding documents you know we're endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights.
He said that although these were self evident they're not self executing -- you were pointing out earlier.
Now as a lawyer that sounds OK and in court you know where you're talking about a self executing will -- affidavit but.
But I'm afraid for those of us listening to an inaugural there was more reminiscent of -- Abraham Lincoln saying.
We will live in America are -- about our country will live through all time or die by suicide will be self executing.
So there are things in his speech that made me think perhaps that's the does the path he's going because when he talks about you know we can no longer having have a rich few my kid in that others have.
We have many having difficulty we have barely making it the look he has done more to help the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Than any president -- call in my lifetime and looking -- -- and I have before he has been.
Arrogant -- towns I decided -- and I just saying but sometimes dismissive.
Even derisive.
And there were those kind of comments in this but the best thing blew the best thing about the speech and I'm I'm like this now because he said.
We cannot mistake absolutism -- principal or substance spectacle for politics are -- name calling as reasoned debate.
Thank you president.
I think now for years -- -- four years of peace where he won't be -- Republican's name for a -- I was so glad to know that was in.
I'm sure that that that that.
That generosity -- his part will be reciprocated almost immediately by the GOP but let's turn to the debt.
The debt ceiling.
Other follow through -- net -- -- -- the Republicans making a move.
To go ahead and move it to end the nonsense I hope you'll tell me here tonight there'll be no discussion by the Republicans whatsoever.
But shutting down the government that this is going to stay positive.
And move forward.
All I wanna do is bring spending under control that's what most -- campaign on.
Because we are bankrupting this nation that we -- American publishing houses -- all respect cellular and I've talked for many years sure I have heard that speech.
Our to the point that it makes me think you don't realize that while you are in the majority conservative Republicans thank that you don't that you don't realize -- That you are in a majority of -- house that is -- less assertive government.
I I give it but nothing that raises revenue nothing that provides money to any part of our government.
Gets there unless the majority in the house pass it right -- that's leverage.
That's leverage to bring spending under control and we have just finished two years where every -- we came up to.
We were told you know what this is probably not the best -- for the -- but now the next CR congress that's where we're gonna fight you know what the CR's not the best foot.
Let's do the debt ceiling the next one so at some point.
We have got to use the leverage we have to brain this it's bending down.
And did actually might the president do what he said it is -- -- yeah agenda perhaps aggravate.
You may have the leverage in point of fact to -- pressure the senate to move toward a budget.
You have the know -- yet you still have the leverage to say no.
Are there could not be a bigger windmill -- jousting had that is an exercise in futility I'm sorry I cashed out everything what my house basically in the way of assets.
In order to run for congress -- make sacrifices and income to become a judge when we needed -- -- dollar taxes.
And now I'm told.
We are gonna -- you have the power war.
To -- it there's talk and determine whether or not -- I have ever I get paid.
What -- what I was telling you that who's telling you that.
Our leadership has said this is week.
And there were people in our conference that wanna do that they sit -- let's let's pass a law that says.
We don't get paid ads if everybody thousands and then pass a budget I'm going you're gonna give the millionaires club down in the senate the authority.
To decide whether or not we get paid in that.
House at their -- -- our job there are fewer millionaires congressman I know the in the tell us now are there they're more than there sure are but what is it and after dismissing one automobile and -- goes right we're out of time we got a hard to break coming sure I want targeting your congressman or sometimes -- what was that do you.
But the objectives -- got to -- out.
Is this debt deal.
That being proposed now that you will be voting on Wednesday it looks like are you gonna supported -- prevail and will -- work.
Now without spending cuts now without a balanced budget amendment something more than just -- -- can down the road.
Sounds like we should look back a ways there congressman it's always good to talk -- that we appreciate my bags -- -- -- ever and we'll we'll follow your progress.
Thank you congress -- over lot of one of the terrific for from Capitol Hill now.
