Then an Oscar is flying tax buster to brass says a Republican governor isn't joint actors any -- positive ramps up rights governor Dave Heineman wants to double down on costs.
And a lot of cuts that he wants to ditch the state income tax -- altogether.
He joins nearly a dozen other Republicans looking to roll back a variety of -- It's a positive on -- and right now governor it's -- we are doing in.
Well what I'm trying to do is create a better business tax climate in the state.
So we'll create more jobs and higher paying careers for Nebraska and others who want to move here.
And we're trying to do that by eliminating the individual income tax and the corporate income tax.
And we do that by doing away with some of the special exemptions for sales taxes that we granted over the years the might have made -- thirty or forty years ago.
But today we should not favor one industry over another we're competing in the global economy and I wanna do the very best I can for a citizens.
Governor do you get rid of of these exemptions and everything else and the sales tax side.
You're not raising.
The sales tax the rate itself stays the same.
That's right the race stays the same.
Over the years we've -- -- more exemptions that we collected sales taxes.
And that's unfortunate and there are reasons Lou we may have done that over the years but that no longer make sense we need tax code that simpler.
Ferrer and modern and -- talk to many business leaders in this state they want simplicity and fairness.
They're tired having their lawyers and account -- -- the tax code.
For exemptions rather then -- the market place they wanna be able to compete and I wanna create a better environment for them and that helps our citizens.
You know governor I'm all for.
You know -- -- tax system.
But.
I recognize we need some taxes obviously.
I'm just wondering whether -- borders and irresponsible.
When -- so many -- yourself a bloated.
Bobby Jindal of Louisiana on and governor Bob doll with getting rid of the gas tax all together.
But what it whether you're you're you're -- people that they leaving them the bank -- -- get rid of all these taxes and just survive on.
Minor adjustments and other taxes.
Without creating a real.
-- that's -- what we're trying to do I've made it very clear my plan is revenue neutral and this budget neutral.
We're trying to collect the same amount of revenue because we do have a certain responsibility.
In government.
Now I -- have a very advanced and then allow it isn't changing the cells that how can that make up.
For just tell entirely.
Taking away the stating and because right now our state income tax collects about 2.4 billion dollars.
And we exempt about five billion dollars in sales tax exemptions.
So my argument is -- half of those exemptions and you do get rid of the income tax it's very symbol that regard -- not that easy because there are reasons.
For those exemptions -- if we -- better tax climate a modern tax system this is what we need to deal.
Governor will watch very closely obviously -- It is a trend going on here thank you very much there.
You're welcome all right back.
