Well today came across the new survey that made -- stop and think and well I thought you might like it too.
It's called -- got a lot prosperity index.
And the idea is that GDP isn't enough in determining which countries are truly prosperous you see that web -- on the right hand side of your screen.
But -- -- people take into account opportunity education health personal safety.
And other categories.
The idea that it's not just the money it's how happy you are -- you.
Now having introduced that index I don't agree with its findings necessarily clear -- just twelfth.
Out of a 142 nations I think we should be higher.
Take a look at where we get high marks help were actually number two in -- -- where highest ranking pay it surprised me until I read the -- consider both.
Well being and public spending how much money the government spends and we do a lot of bad.
Education the -- quality of an access to schools is contributing mightily to prosperity and I certainly agree with that governments where number ten.
Presumably the -- it was -- before congress did their -- fiscal cliff and budget ceiling.
Another number ten rating is on what the study called social capital now what others mean by that it's basically just social cohesion.
To people have family and community ties that contribute to one's well being.
But the study like ambassador performance in the following categories and this mystified me the economy.
We may have -- GDP in the world but the authors of the study also greeted us on unemployment.
And personal saving rates and we didn't score high there.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- We scored low thereto and frankly this is one I simply don't get cents starting a business seems to be a founding principle of this -- country.
We also score poorly on safety and security are lowest ranking and personal freedom that was a shocker to me.
At any rate the US standing spell out of the top ten for the first time in this study.
Amazing and the authors say this that we were pulled down.
Primarily.
By a decline in the number of US citizens who believe hard work will get them ahead.
Fewer of us apparently feel that way.
It's sad right as we grow entitlement nation in this country the costs are high social mobility declines opportunity -- We need to return to what made -- great maybe there's -- lesson in that study.
