Washington the middle class wasn't supposed to get tax at all whether fiscal -- -- -- -- -- the payroll tax kicked and and now more taxes maybe comedy here now let's Curtis -- -- Heritage Foundation senior policy -- -- with more on who may be footing the bill this time.

So you know was supposed to be we're gonna have some higher taxes get that out of the way and then sit down and talk about spending cuts instead it has evolved into.

This was only the beginning of the tax for grade including something called a vat tax -- value added tax.

Is that a good idea.

You know it's a terrible idea a -- solace -- -- focus of what's really going on here President Obama said that.

During the campaign as president he said that's to reduce our deficit and debt problem when you have -- balance approach which means some tax increases -- -- spending cuts.

The fiscal cliff deal had a bunch a tax increase is that it allowed.

There were no spending cuts now they he's had -- spent his tax increases congress is a force him to -- follow through with the spending cuts portion of his -- approach.

It does seem like that is not going to happen though that really what we're doing is heading down the road to more taxes and there's been the idea really leaning on a carbon tax.

Are putting forward this value added tax -- something -- they do in Europe it would be a whole new revenue stream.

For the government here in the US we're basically -- tax you at every step along the way of production.

What do you think that would mean for the economy.

We'll need a much slower going economy less much less opportunity for middle loaned Americans and it would greatly grow the size of government.

The key to both -- both of -- attacks in a carbon tax is that they tax the middle class.

There's just not enough revenue at the top anymore for president -- attacks.

To pay for his big government schemes so he needs to have a much broader tax base to get the revenue to pay for those programs he wants to grow and expand.

That's where the carbon tax in the -- testament.

They allow him to tax middle class without raising income taxes which which is some way you -- a -- to for him to China -- is pledging he would never raise taxes on the middle class.

-- at what I think it's scary about it is it's really it's finally attack she northern income tax to be into the year you see what the final bill let's with a bad tax it's like sales tax you're paying -- all along the way everywhere you go and there's no place.

Where you see just how much -- taken a bite out of your income.

Do you just have to deal with with paying down the debt in getting our problems under control.

Or would we not really slow our spending in this really wouldn't help us with the deficit in the debt at in the back.

Right and that's -- that's a that's whether that is the perfect tax for those wanna go government it's.

It's very hard for people know how much -- pain and it raises a tremendous amount of revenue if we -- -- it would raise trillions of dollars a year.

But that it's all it's also displaced right now we shouldn't be worried about attack of that tax at this point -- -- about getting spending under control if we get spending under control now.

We'll have to worry about of that in the future.

Now's the time to get -- control we have three opportunities in the next couple months.

The debt limit debate.

The -- a resolution to fund the government for the remainder of this year.

And -- debate over the sequestration cuts that com.

Are coming very soon so we to folks are getting spending under control in those debates and we never have to worry about these massive tax and says that would greatly to care curtail opportunity.

I know -- I don't radiant only moments -- thank getting spending under control that occurred if -- coming on the show we appreciate your time.

Thank you.
