Consumers seem to be putting the pedal to the metals auto sales accelerated in December -- strong month caps a strong year for the industry with 2012 estimated to have been the best year for auto makers since 2007.

Jeff Flock is covered the auto industry since then and looking at the details Jeff nice nice month again.

Some better than others but.

Pretty much good for everybody at the end -- gonna have a trivia question and answer for you what do you think is the best selling car of the year -- -- worldwide.

Think about -- -- the answer in a moment but first let's take a look at the numbers who did well in December -- pretty much everybody except for one.

Starting with the American auto makers Ford GM both up Toyota was up Chrysler up double digits again which was a surprise.

The overseas auto bomb makers of did better in December largely VW.

Up 35%.

-- was up double -- so was Hyundai the only one down.

On December of anyone was Nissan.

Now take a look at year end because this was the last month of the year so who did well -- -- again you look at the American auto makers they did pretty well but they did much better last year the Japanese obviously recovered better Toyota up 27% on the year Chrysler up 21% they just had.

A great year all around and then.

VW up 35% on the year -- was up as well Hyundai is up.

Everyone was up it was a good year -- -- tell you we were on the conference calls today mark -- it GM and he thinks next -- is gonna be even better maybe a fifteen and a half million selling rate.

Toyota says -- gonna sell a 100000 mark cars next year -- last year look at the stocks.

GM.

And Ford both largely out this year or are they are today on trading and Toyota.
