And we have to members of congress still to come in this hour we're gonna get into this very emotional debate about hurricane -- relief.

-- a little while but up more on the fiscal cliff right now -- congress reach that deal.

-- last night our next guest though says we can't just keep up your punting the ball democratic congressman Ron kind from Wisconsin is sure to be Democrat coalition.

He's with us now from Capitol Hill because that's essentially what happened here is an an even though the deal is hammered out congressman as we have to go through this whole thing again.

What is conference -- happy new year but it was an imperfect solution to an imperfect process and we have to stop this eleventh hour brinksmanship which.

Isn't conducive of the type of certainty that.

Our economy needs right now to continue to grow and to create the jobs that we need in the short term measures just don't get it done.

So what so what are we -- I mean the the idea of getting something big done.

And it seems like just about everybody.

A year or two ago there was a relative amount of optimism about a quote unquote grand bargain -- Something it look like Simpson Bowles I think most of mostly everybody's given upon -- -- think think about it just from the Democrats out of revenue.

Simpson -- I believe that like two point six trillion.

And you know in in revenue and it which some people forget that as a ton of revenue and -- this 1600 billion -- you're not even close on that side.

Forget about spending for a moment we're nowhere close to a grand bargain.

Well -- that's the irony as everyone knows what needs to be done every bipartisan commission you mentioned -- symbols they've reached the same conclusion we've got to have some additional revenue threatening major spending reforms with a big money is in the federal budget.

That's how we're gonna give -- -- and we.

There's nothing to this deal on spending -- nothing and and then -- and then you have to do it again in two months I guess the Republicans already have more leverage but.

You've got to the Democrats have gotta throw some spending cuts in him in does not everyone literally nothing.

You're right the automatic spending cuts take effect again at the end of February so between now and then we have to get back to talking to each other.

-- firstly the two largest spending categories which is rising health care costs and defense if we're not serious about reforming these programs.

We're not gonna be serious about reaching a long term deficit reduction agreement.

Think about the problem I mean everybody it is kind of frustrating to toxic that he may keep one earlier and other people said this but you think about you said and you're actually right about this.

Everybody knows what has to be done and you pretty much do and it's something climbing up the exact but it's something close to Simpson Bowles.

But getting from here to there is almost impossible right -- -- it's not even in the next time you guys.

Democrats will fight tooth and -- some -- -- spending cuts because -- say what we need more revenue we -- more than 600 -- right to ask for more revenue next time.

-- it's it's fein the political process and then the political will to get it done but let's be fair about this time -- -- we just came -- the campaign were Democrats for ruthlessly attacked by the other side for taking 800 billion dollars out of Medicare.

And the Republicans were promising to restore that funding while they're also promising to increase defense spending by two trillion dollars over the next ten years.

So they've got to be realistic to -- the spending cuts that they're willing to offer that we need that lock arms on.

And jump into the icy waters but we need to go -- and any that would be good for the type of economic certainty that's lacking right now and and they help the seek economic recovery and and help with job creation.

That we desperately need that's the most important thing we can do to help get our fiscal house in order strong vibrant growing economy again.

Let me just ask you before I let you go because a minute talk to congressman -- about this coming up -- the idea.

We -- so much about spending cuts the idea that the spending bill for hurricane sandy.

Victims didn't make it to the house floor last night what your view on that right.

While we need to come back and address and hopefully later Friday later this week we'll have a chance to again the senate has finished their work.

The waiting for the house it but this is a major disaster the worst disaster to hit the north New England area.

In our lifetime is time for congress to step up and act as a community as a nation to go to those in need.

Congressman -- thank you very much for coming on today appreciate it thank you all the judges coming up by -- Pollack.
