-- Ehrlich right now former Maryland governor and US congressman.

He's not senior counsel for government advocacy public policy at king.

That's falling how to get your initial reaction.

Robert to everything that we have now seen coming out of -- sheriff -- the lack the what do you make of this last minute you know wrangling with less than twelve hours ago.

-- this reminds me of all the omnibus budget negotiation from the past it never changes -- keeping a list here of the doc fix.

The tax Extenders the AMT.

Our fixed it's it's the same issues over and over again every time we we -- this sort.

Of of problem.

With regard to fiscal policy in congress the big issues.

Obviously.

Tax and by the -- sequester is the on official at the -- -- -- that's -- The big issues -- every form.

Long term tax rates -- what to do about.

Spending.

Sixteen trillion dollars and that again being postponed.

So that the bottom line here is on many deal.

Along the lines of you kicking the can down the proverbial Alley no doubt about it.

And waiting until a new congress is sworn and in order to hopefully finally really.

Bottom line get to the -- major policy issues part of the country including the under control spending and Washington DC.

While -- certainly the GOP and Republicans are saying that you just wait until the debt ceiling debate.

-- begins -- -- and -- gonna get -- the fights really gonna get frankly nasty feeling you are US congressman by the way one of the things that you did -- that the time was you pass.

And it was true tax reform I mean taxes was a big issue to you.

When you had your time.

In congress.

Out why do you think this -- a lack of understanding at this point by our men and women in congress as to the tax -- and why -- -- actually gotten more complicated as a being simple.

You have more moderate president.

Philosophical cents in this present -- very progressive.

Big government.

-- -- -- and and he just got reelected so he is -- empowered.

-- and that's a big difference in the second difference I would say as.

When I was in congress there was a legitimate thought for a third party that.

The blue dog Democrats we suitable weevil Democrats and moderate more fiscally conservative Democrats.

Were -- real honest broker third party they played a real -- budget negotiations.

Under John -- -- member of the Budget Committee we have balanced budgets were 34 straight years negotiating with the were -- president.

But also -- having enough Democrats in the house.

Who were really fiscally prudent who wanted to get to a balanced budget.

For the -- the importance of it.

The day if you look at the -- the resurgent laughed particularly in the house.

Those moderates are pretty well gone you have a very liberal.

Membership in the house very liberal membership in the senate.

More interest it and expanding the role government not obviously getting -- off.

To something makes more sense long term so you have this huge philosophical divide.

And we're gonna postponing reduce many DO now but are quite -- -- be ugly and futures well okay.

Governor if you listen to the president yes -- Meet the Press about that divide is is larger than ever that was very apparent yesterday.

We'll go to Robert Ehrlich of course a former US congressman thank you sir appreciate the perspective today.

Live my pleasure aren't happy new year to you well -- -- colder.
