-- and the congressional leaders work or appear to work to try and come up without fiscal cliff deal.
The full house isn't even scheduled to return to Washington until Sunday afternoon.
Democratic congressman John -- of Delaware joins us now from Wilmington thank you for being with -- I'm gonna pick up with the -- with the final question I don't know if you heard me ask senator -- and have what I asked him.
But the majority of this citizenry is looking at all of you.
We've discussed you can't get a deal done.
That the deal that's going to come forth was probably something that was offered a year a year and a half ago why don't we go through this chaos.
Well I think that's exactly right -- -- certainly what I hear from my constituents here in the state of Delaware as you know just get something done.
Keep out of work hard compromise -- come up with something that's gonna.
Really address this.
Announce any lawyer is John -- do it.
Why do you why didn't really the 400 plus members of the House of Representatives put up with -- -- BS.
Well that's a good question on a number of us have sent letters and into our leadership and made our our opinions and I actually agree.
With my colleague.
Mister -- from the senate.
Warning a big deal look we've got we got to deal with this fiscal situation now it's not gonna be a one time thing it's going to be a process.
Particularly when you consider that those.
Escalating costs arising call concerned health care.
And now with our aging populace we've got to get there is our costs under control was -- be -- an ongoing process we gotta keep that we should be.
We should the house should be in.
In session right now in Washington were coming back on Sunday.
And I'm hopeful that -- work straight through total book on this year's day.
No one understands these issues better that you you were secretary of finance in Delaware you've actually put together since arriving at the House of Representatives bipartisan.
Working group that could solve these issues and yet we don't hear from you -- that working group to get these issues done.
And here we are spending countless hours and wasting billions of dollars.
Economically people are are holding back on their spending because nothing has been not.
Patting you as a moderate as someone who can deal with the other side get the leadership to get out of the -- and get a deal done.
Yeah we just keep pushing that's all that we can do on the you can't have 535.
From the house in the senate negotiating this deal we have to let our leadership know.
What's what we -- after we do that we have to rely on our leadership to bring us back an agreement as senator.
Who have been mentioned a few minutes ago and I'm hopeful that the meeting today -- will result -- look at the the two sides you know they're fairly close in terms of the numbers it's really the structure.
And the process going forward so are I remain hopeful that we'll get a deal that leadership will bring back that we -- we can support in the house.
And I would imagine that it went when you talk deal that would support the house what do the Democrats have to give give me one issue that Democrats have to be willing to give on.
One issue that the Republicans have to be willing to give -- Well the debt did the Democrats you know it's really pretty simple the Democrats have to be willing to accept some spending cuts.
That the nocturnal -- -- and the Republicans.
Have to be willing to accept some revenue that that -- -- Lichen and and there are both sides have showed a willingness to do that a recognition that this is for the good of the country.
And so I'm hopeful that -- -- have that kind of an agreement from our leaders through that the end of the week.
And that was the agreement essentially that they had a year and a half ago and here we are on agreeable because we haven't done it yet.
Congressman I appreciate your being here and I apologize for about a came across a bit.
-- with you because I do know that you worked with your your colleagues on the other side of the the floor to get things done.
That's what I hear from my constituents here as well so that's that's the far under our feet here to -- -- -- -- but we will keep that fire -- all the best user.
So which company.
