So how well this weather affect retail sales which are as you know coming up the worst holiday season in three years.
-- -- with some answers Evan gold analytic senior vice president.
Client services Evan nice to see is still.
What is your take on on retail spending here how the storm sort of -- already.
-- fourth quarter spending season.
Great to be here -- you know.
Well certainly whether -- having an impact on the roads to rails on the skies.
People are able to get out in most of the major population centers and get to there for a local mall or shopping center.
And redeem those gift cards.
You know.
We did see some reports out yesterday in terms of some holiday spending but but I actually still think we have a ways to go before -- close the book on this holiday season where.
It if you this week following Christmas are some of the biggest shopping days of the year.
And I'd expect a lot of folks to be redeeming gift cards which is when retailers will recognize that revenue so I actually expect things to be a little bit better I wouldn't necessarily write book closed yet on the south.
An important point -- because retailers as our viewers know don't book the revenue -- the gift cards actually use and we talked to analysts.
All types of -- within the retail sector specifically the toy analysts think -- yet there is no popular toy this year.
People just didn't really know what to buy -- kids and they're certainly.
He's always toys -- there but there was no one hot item in some maybe it was just easier to give the gift card or the online gift certificate.
So until again that is actually booked as revenue we're not going to know what other factor seventy think -- out there when you say besides the shopping days.
-- sales settled you know -- -- the year that could actually improve the spending picture.
Sure there's there's a lot of other factors that are out there and certainly one of the things that we watch very closely is the weather and with a lot of gift cards that are still out there waiting to be redeemed weather becomes a larger factor in terms of what people would deem those items.
On so we're just talking about the winter storm that's that's currently -- in place we've got another storm potential for this weekend.
So for retailers that are selling apparel like outer Wear boots gloves stars half sweaters.
There's an opportunity right now and into this weekend to start clearing -- product because as the weather gets cold and snowing here there's triggering that need for consumers to buy those items and it's not just the apparel folks in the mass merchants.
Even the home centers there's opportunity for folks you if you didn't get that snowblower.
And now you might be recognizing that need to go to go go -- make that purchase.
-- so how does -- net out these guys.
-- people staying home and not spending.
Not driving not traveling vs people see your point buying snow blowers and shovels and warm clothes so.
Is bad weather like this does it ultimately.
Help the economy or heard it -- at it's kind of a tough question and it's kind of general but in this case when we think how do you think it'll end up.
It's really more on -- sector by sector basis so for folks that are in the impacted areas that.
You know they can't get out right now.
There's a negative impact to folks like get entertainment senators.
-- -- movie theaters may be restaurants but for folks that can get down get to the malls.
It's it's really as good news and and you know but we're talking earlier around that the ski resorts and this is an ideal scenario if you pick this week to do -- -- this and you pick them and I feel weak to do your vacation because all of the snow or most of the snow is happening.
In areas frankly where people want it so.
There actually is opportunity and it's -- -- sector by sector basis but I look for folks in the apparel the soft lines.
-- certainly that that the ski resorts.
Are doing very very well and expect them to do very very well over the next couple of days.
-- appreciate your analysis seven -- with plan analytics thanks so much.
Happy holidays like flies back -- to.
