From up north let's start with what we saw this past week with this report -- came out about -- Ghazi in the security.
And the State Department being asked for more security you travel -- hotspots around the world I'm sure you've been in many of our embassies around the world.
When you get to these embassies do you find that the security is adequate.
That the debt the troops that are there in the State Department personnel feel comfortable with their with their security.
Well it all depends on what country -- going to and it includes consulates and other kinds of US missions overseas.
-- go to a place like Baghdad and be totally secure.
Even against enemy in coming because it's been built up over time with -- decade essentially.
To be a fortress.
Other places where you feel far less secure and and many of those happen to be in Africa.
Not just in north coast but literally the length of the country.
Some of those and Central America and Latin America that we've been to are obviously vulnerable and have yet to be -- in -- reestablished rebuilt.
And the structural -- structural equipment put in place not just the personnel but the structural equipment to make them safe so.
It depends on where in the world you are in large part I it seems it depends on how much attention this State Department is willing to devote to that particular mission.
Well and that and that gets to the point about government in Washington and and you know it's run by bureaucrats and so there is some bureaucracy are you are you worried that we'll have another -- does.
Well look I look at -- -- -- -- report and I am deeply disappointed first -- -- with ambassador Tom -- -- with admiral -- who co chair this commission.
If this was a truth commission that was designed to get -- Who did what and failed to do what was necessary it certainly isn't that it's part of the cover up.
And -- ought to know better because I happen to remember when he was threatened in Central America in El Salvador specifically.
The security around ambassador Pickering was will be boosted up that fast.
Units were deployed right from the United States to protect him in the embassy property.
And of course the people and the equipment inside in the classified information inside an embassy.
That was not done.
Then then -- it was certainly not done in most of the rest of those embassies are so vulnerable at the -- tunis.
And when you see this report.
You realize -- -- is being held accountable and there are no real solid recommendations other then we're gonna look at some procedures here in Washington.
How about that about putting on the block the people who really screwed it up either through incompetence.
Or malevolent.
Or miss reasons.
Get rid of them and put the right people in place you know what they're doing.
That's not gonna happen from this report.
You know so it brought in in that that the subject of beyond bin Ghazi is -- the troops here we are coming up on Christmas.
Troops are -- I don't know if you remember the first year you were away from home I do.
On Christmas is something -- never forget.
What what's the morale of the troops around the world we we look we are in we've been -- -- you know Afghanistan Israel that what tomorrow.
-- look.
My first Christmas of my marriage 44 years ago -- in Vietnam -- my wife was back home here in the states.
I've missed the whole bunch of Christmas is in birthdays and anniversaries.
That I would like to have been home for on the other hand.
The young Americans like those -- we serve -- -- back in those days.
-- are doing so because they they're volunteers they wanted to serve their country we've got roughly a 150000.
We're going to be away from home over this holiday period they're deployed in Afghanistan -- in Kuwait during the Persian gulf.
The Gulf of -- the countries around the periphery of the Indian Ocean.
There and bases in Korea and Japan during Europe in many cases -- far from home and remote locations protecting America.
The best thing we can do is -- say a prayer for their safety number two.
Let them know by every means possible how much we believe in what they're doing.
I would hope that this White House would send that kind of message to these youngsters three days from now so that they understand.
We as an American people appreciate the sacrifices that they and their families are making.
In an era when it's very difficult and ultimately sometimes very dangerous -- --
