Joining us now as senator John -- member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
He says the hearing explains exactly -- Secretary Clinton needs to testify senator good to have you with us.
-- this is a remarkable and as I understand the testimony.
Secretary Clinton was in receipt of their most telling her what was going on.
What was transpiring as to the and adequacy of security.
Over many months and been guidance is that right.
That's why we need Secretary Clinton.
In person in public and on the record to answer not just those questions.
-- but a number of questions about where she was during the attack what she did did she give any orders in the same applies to the president of the United States where he was what he was doing.
And what he did I've seen the video from the drones I've seen the video.
From there -- security cameras there and senator ratio is absolutely right.
You know most people don't focus on the fact that there were two deaths of -- And almost immediately.
And then the other two who died died about seven hours later so it's hard for me CIA they weren't able to get yes.
-- CIA operatives atop the end of the the roof probably annex.
Is senator there -- a couple of discrete judgments to be made here amongst them is Mike Mullen.
He he testifies -- blank that there was no way for the military to respond.
To the confrontation -- these terrorists and either the annex or.
That the council.
-- do you will -- Well -- it gets back to the boy scout motto be prepared.
You would think that you would want to have assets available.
Within a certain distance of places but you know there is no sign anywhere that we ask any help from any neighboring countries anyone else in the vicinity.
To help us at that time there's no effort that that call went out.
So you just have to say how could they have put.
These people in this situation they have failed to connect the dots they failed to anticipate.
What was happening and -- once the attack began.
There there was nothing they could do immediately but have they responded.
Immediately it might -- prevented.
The deaths that occurred seven hours later.
It's interesting to me that there are those who say.
Principally it's for the administration that this rose at the level of assistant secretary.
The security for diplomatic personnel as well as for embassies.
That and the head of security.
And that that should that should be it.
They have resigned there were forced to resign as the results of these lapses obviously you disagree with.
-- you know it's very hard to actually fire someone in the State Department they have to show willful negligence.
Gross incompetence isn't enough to fire someone.
Who is working their for the government -- you think about that aspect of it.
But I think we need to hear from secretary.
Clinton we need to hear from her.
As secretary of state she needs to come and testify.
In person and on the record their lots of questions.
-- and todays hearing just added two more questions.
More questions do you think they're going to be answered here.
Secretary Clinton is now said she will testify before mid January.
Which would be before the inauguration.
And presumably sent in an effort to satisfy.
The senate your thoughts.
Well I think it's critical that she does do that for her own credibility and I think that she actually wants to testify but there are many tough questions that need to be answered.
In terms of what the secretary of state was doing as well as what the president of the United States.
Was doing did the president know about these request -- the president's narrative -- during the election was that that al-Qaeda is on the run what we see here that.
That -- -- linked terrorists were actually training in eastern Libya not far from been -- that seem to be a hotbed training area for those folks and you know makes you wonder if this State Department believe the president's own press releases rather than what they should have seen.
On the ground they should have been connecting the dots and they failed miserably.
And in this reportedly street confirms.
That the president was in -- Pointing out directly that al-Qaeda is far from dead but remains active.
And significantly so in the region.
Senator John -- is always good to talk review thanks preventing you appreciate -- much more.
