Welcome back -- they always say story is sweet end there's some new meaning to that term.
We're nation modest -- the president and founder of high tech connect.
Joining us via Skype from California high -- -- good morning good morning and our right so any office you say keep everything down to three.
Three -- planes three and at three -- everything why is being shorter.
Well we're just getting bombarded with information 24/7.
From so many different media types it's really difficult to concentrate focus.
What's really important and electric company long ago that did everything -- -- And so wind my world gets a little chaotic.
-- kind of try to remind myself to just really -- down to the top three things that are most important cash.
Is that really helps me it's simple but it's one of the things that can prevent someone from getting completely overwhelmed on a daily basis so I had three ways to get everything down -- this very point.
Number one if they think you need to just take a few minutes even if you harsh and idling in your car waiting for a kid picked up I think you need to take just a tiny bit of trying to prioritize -- -- student in the morning before -- coffee some people do that in the evening but you really need to just.
-- -- for a few minutes and jot down what those top three things -- and the next thing I -- -- I use -- are they Smart phone and I found and I it will literally pull out just a tiny little note so there for the -- you know don't get so formal sometimes I'm just jumping -- -- post it notes and slapping it on my dashboard of my car.
I'm really trying to keep things in perspective initially -- get important things done.
It's what's gonna keep us from being overwhelmed is trying to here.
Now let's face it we -- What's the best format for being productive -- mean.
Cut to the chase even if you are in a top executive position with the company.
Really people don't have time to read long emails anyone they don't wanna see a big chunk attached.
So for me one of the easiest things to do is try to keep -- one very short line saying what I'm looking for.
The -- three bullets.
And then of course a call to action what do I want from this percentage sometimes I find out that really I don't need to send an email I considered very short text -- pick up the phone call.
OPEC gas -- Messaging do you think that that's in personal in the office.
Do you think people as it's dictated picking up the phone or in -- someone -- heady feel about the appropriateness of text message.
I think it depends on the message out of nowadays when you need just a yes or no kind of cancer or -- go no go answer a text is absolutely fine we LC used instant message -- but -- -- other other asked and again that the goal here is get the answer quickly get every person's weight and keep moving forward.
And what about in a meeting in a real meeting with real people showing up physically what do you.
I really think that texting and email should not be allowed.
Obviously that varies by organization.
That but really to be focused on what -- hand in front -- you -- an active participant in the meeting I mean you can't really do that while you're checking email the same time.
Right right but it would not -- guidelines for meaning -- had to keep it moving she Egypt with Camelot to to get through should you keep it's just three points to go offer at a meeting.
Absolutely because doesn't really pay attention to -- is that our our.
Exactly exactly less is more in this case I mean there are always.
Plenty of action kind of action items in activities that need to occur and that really trying to keep your employees in your -- focused on what is most important and if you can identify 12 -- three eat.
T on action -- just about a week or activities that are critical for your team.
That's gonna -- -- really focused on the understaffed and are probably getting done anyway but really having a focal point is really cheap.
And how long should a voice now -- Oh sure.
And my husband was really really bad at this he's still leave the world's longest voicemail messages -- and eastern increase teach you really just need to get to the point didn't ask the person there to each other person what you're looking for -- -- your number and hang -- Yeah I usually -- points house when they reach a certain number of -- -- are actually -- most of my least favorite thing to check.
Yet he inherited and it's kind of like well some people do voicemail and then a follow up email because they know that we don't check their voice not as often the sometimes -- -- Let you voicemail in case you don't check -- this is what I -- -- gained.
Is that over the radio -- it.
Overkill yeah absolutely -- if you don't -- act within a dear to you.
The -- and perhaps she could follow up but otherwise we need to -- technology did you important things such as we -- here in our business we're not in neurosurgery no one's gonna die if someone doesn't get back to us right away.
Right so or -- about my grandmother who calls every single fun I own and then -- -- addresses as well it's that it should just let that.
Israeli -- my -- the same thank you like seen on the at every -- nice and one Blackberry and they all show up in the same spot.
And they're all right under each other so it is -- and it's.
