Pretty bad compared to previous versions small it's great to say -- -- joining us now in this week's all things digital from Washington DC.
Walt what are you.
Guys what they basically -- done.
Here is you know this thing has been out since 2011 it's enormously successful -- think most people understand.
That this thing is is slowly climbing toward a billion users.
And huge amounts of money.
Flow through the iTunes store.
And all over those years a lot of things and then there's been accretion a lot of features have been -- a lot of things have been done.
So this is the biggest updates since 2003 and they really kind of tried to -- design it and so the biggest thing I would say is just.
-- and that sort of thing just a redesigned.
As if they didn't have it before.
And how would you make.
A program like this today that's the number one thing -- you can see it right away by that lit the fact that that side bar that we're all familiar where it.
That kind of -- sidebar.
With the all the choices and things downside which could get pretty long.
Is gone you can bring it back if you want but by default it's turned off.
-- one of the things I think its interest in any time something new is introduced in technology you think people that are -- -- would be kind of flexible -- apparently adapters and they would bailout while you know whatever the new accounting -- into it and many times is just the opposite if you check this creatures of habit and if you change.
-- one writing about the way they're used to doing things they go crazy in his of that happening to some apple fans here in.
It is happening and it's mostly power users people with very large.
Collections of music.
Or people who are used to the -- around a lot with the meta data in their songs.
Things like that which iTunes -- -- -- -- -- -- still allows you to do.
They haven't taken that away but they've made it probably a little harder to do.
In this simplification process they've dropped out.
A certain things and death and then one odd thing is you know apple had touted some years ago.
A I guess it was that it was a design innovation called Cover Flow.
Member that were it was like -- carousel of all the album covers.
And -- they just decided it wasn't being used as much as they thought it would be used and so they've killed.
Not end here anymore he should look at Twitter.
I mean I I in my -- tweeting yesterday Cover Flow is dead and people were like go hello I'm never gonna use this -- -- business and -- Flow is dead so you know.
Look there there are there are some issues here but.
There's a one terrific feature that have to mention which is called expanded view of now if you click on an album cover.
This lovely window kind of resumes out all the songs in the album are on there.
The window is color matched to the color of the album cover of the picture for -- album covers kind of blended in there.
And you can do bunch of things with the song titles.
On there -- gone a little arrow and you very simply -- Added to the top of your -- of songs your plane can.
Start -- -- off they can go to the store and buy some more things by that.
Artists is a bunch of things you can do so that's an example I think of the cleaning up and that.
Simplification of the thing but you're right year -- you really right.
And this is like theology it's like changing some of the ritual and your church all of a sudden bright and you get upset about some people get upset about it and that's what's going on.
What really quickly is better integrated with iCloud.
Yeah and that's and -- -- FX bring that update and that's a really important thing you know here's the here's a quick summary.
ITunes is always been thought of as something.
About that's all about downloading you buy the song -- downloaded.
-- there are some other services Spotify other things which stream.
Apple hasn't done much screaming.
This version of iTunes.
Allows a lot more streaming from the cloud without first.
Downloading -- song now it's not streaming every song anywhere.
With the you've paid herder -- not a subscription.
But if you have ever bought anything from iTunes or through our member of iTunes match which.
Includes songs you haven't bought from them and cost 25 dollars a year any of that stuff including TV shows and movies.
You can now stream without first downloading it and that's -- significant change for apple.
You know there are rumours that apple is going into.
For instance that could it working on a service that's will be a competitor -- Andorra.
Which we saw on the -- the markets segment.
I can't confirm that I don't know it but I mean I think -- the list tiptoeing.
