-- the cost of each plan for you my next guest says there is more to it than that in fact she says the Republicans.
Are waging a quote war on working people in America is Sheila Jackson is the democratic.
Texas she joins us and a -- this is exclusive to tell us why.
Congresswoman thank you so much for coming on the show and first -- reaction to what you just heard.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Or it was the Republican plan of the White House's plan -- what we should do to avoid -- -- the clip in the main point sort of that we came to -- was that.
None of it really does anything to tackle the debt and deficit what do you think about that.
First -- -- the one thing I want to I say to the American people that we are all unified in that is.
A completely different manages to say that Syria will not get weapons of mass destruction and destroy.
Not only in their people but candles around the surrounding areas that we are unified on -- -- and I just wanted to.
To say -- -- thank you for your courtesy for allow me to do so now we have we appreciate that that's really important issue that we are also focused on here so thank you for that.
Thank you -- serve on the homeland security committee but we have been in meetings.
-- all day and I have was able to listen to some months moment of the discussion let me say where we are today.
No one disagrees that this should not be a discussion on entitlements what we are absolutely opposed to -- Democrats.
Ranging from conservative to moderate to progressives is the preservation of Medicare Social Security.
And frankly Medicaid and that sell security has nothing to do with the deficit it is solvent until 2037.
Medicare solvent -- 20/20 four.
I think where we are -- and and I know that as I listen then the question was what the Republicans get anything from.
-- -- when he used to work conceding that coming together on behalf of the American people.
Where some 62% believe that on November 6 when the race was -- look the vote was really on whether or not that should be a fair tax burden on those who well.
I don't know yeah.
You I mean let's let's go ahead and raise taxes I mean lets -- -- we do that and that doesn't get as close to solving the problem.
I mean we still have sixteen point three trillion dollars in debt we are still running four billion dollars a day.
Beyond what we are making I mean it's we have this huge -- country I mean that was a house.
You -- appearance in distress and say my god you know we can never pay all these bills that that's sort of the point.
I'm not in distress on that first of all.
With the tax relief for 98% of Americans.
How will turn.
A -- amount of a trillion -- -- back into the treasury that's the first step secondarily.
A lot of economists will make it very clear.
That in a time of a recession of sorts -- when we're trying to move out.
Non growth and move into more growth which is really the key element it's -- time to be.
And use a machete on on spending.
What you need to do is to be reasonable there's a sixteen trillion -- that I agree with you but remember we had a five point six trillion dollar surplus.
From the Clinton administration.
Here is -- reason that -- that is reasonable but you're saying we're gonna put it we're gonna put a trillion dollars into the treasury ever ten year period.
That I mean that doesn't even cover -- -- crisis in Sunday.
But -- but we're not finished first of all.
We have already seen.
As of August the July a trillion dollars in spending cuts but more importantly we're at a fifty year low.
In non defense discretionary spending so where the government is not spending it's just that we are larger nation one of the largest nations in the world.
And so we've got to get an understanding that America.
Is a country that is not gonna go back to the 1950s -- always gonna be searching and growing it to make this country better and have a balance.
Economy so -- -- we do what do we do we start Melissa because over the last decade.
Previous to President Obama we have spent like we like we -- running Warner.
Absolutely we have everybody get -- tax cuts -- -- think we all agree on that what ever side of the aisle you're on cuts we have -- wait too much.
Well we -- spam we don't -- we.
Basically reform entitlement spending and we don't get our spending it with any of these three plants and even -- the clip we don't get our spending in order I'll give you the last word chemical -- Let let me just say -- think -- That the issue with the Republicans is that they're losing this -- losing the argument the debate they're losing everything.
And what we need to do is -- to respond to that question.
What do we do now in three weeks let's go ahead and give 98% of the American people a tax -- none of us.
The viability importance of looking at entitlement reform as a relaxed -- savings.
-- what -- -- Ford and abuse and other aspects I will not tolerate an increase in the eligibility or raising the age.
But what Republicans are doing is they are -- putting the issue on taxes and they're not telling the American people that the entitlement reform and tax reform.
Is an issue or issues that can be discussed and 2013.
Any -- -- and okay -- think to your constituents think that's the key.
We're out of time that you see so much for coming and I hope you come back and talk to us about Syria as welcome that's an important issue -- coming out and -- the line we appreciate it resolved and we don't have to though the clip.
All right all right next on.
