Well meanwhile is the government the government doing some -- on putting your car at risk.

Triple a warning that.

Could damage about 95%.

On the of the vehicles on the road.

With more Jeremy and well vice chairman of Edmunds dot com Jeremy thanks for coming on the show tonight I feel I heard the story I almost couldn't believe it.

So how can this happen and that the federal government could approve this and it's so bad for so many cars.

-- personal I think -- AAA is correct -- issuing their warnings because there is a real risk for a lot of motorists associated with this.

New blend of fuel but.

BP EPA has authorized that they have a mandate ended and I think it's important to note that some of the political coalition that was so in favor of ethanol 67 years ago doesn't really exist anymore and yet some of these candidates are still rolling out.

So wait here -- good humor and I -- I think and bureaucracy -- it just keeps on going.

-- -- point -- this isn't some suggested for every state in the nation just three sell.

Nebraska Kansas and Iowa.

I tell us what the impact of this is on a car that's your expertise.

Sure well as a couple things -- it went well first crucial point we should point out that just about all the gasoline sold in the United States has some amount of ethanol the issue here is increasing that amount.

-- ethanol as some people may know has a couple characteristics one of them is that it's a solvent so it can dissolve maybe rubber hoses or other components and vehicles.

And it it also absorbs water so it brings water into the fuel system.

The fuel can separate you can get to gasoline up from all around and water that actually isn't in the second Korea questioned why we started years and -- in the first place.

Well I think -- that they need ten which is what typically people find at the -- It's not really an issue the auto makers have adapted the the power trains and they're they're quite capable of doing that but as you start to increase the level of ethanol you introduce more problems.

Some 228.

Million vehicle -- 228 million vehicles can get damage here is it every car their cars that are more susceptible than others.

Well older cars -- Certainly the ones that -- that are most -- there are some vehicles on the road today that can actually function quite well with ethanol percentages as high as 85%.

But they've been built for that so the question for consumers.

And it's a big question is how do you know that your car can tolerate the higher -- levels or whether they're at risk and it's not there's no easy answer for that.

All right well however we should say B and W Chrysler Nissan Toyota.

VW have also their warranties will not cover fuel related -- so there's -- -- right there.

There's a cooler weather and I are likely to G on the card can -- -- -- -- Toyota hour bug or.

Any of those maybe you don't -- -- put that that debt type of gas and there I guess my concern was sure it's only in three states right now this.

-- could go to other states as well is there any sense out there that it's going to be pushed to a wider market.

-- Think there is a risk and as you say right now be very hard to even find to be fifteen.

But there's a federal mandate to increase the amount of ethanol in the nation's fuel supply and it increases a year -- year and -- the only realistic ways.

To meet that mandate would be to increase the sales.

C fifteen mix so you'll probably going to be -- more and more of that rolling out across the country as time rolls off so it's a growing risk.

Last question Jeremy.

If I'm one of those people -- already UC fifteen in my car what should I do.

I think you may have already used at this present a risk the damage -- already done so I would just continue to to good use the fuel and followed up with the ten if you have any doubts at all after that so.

It's that put them there is a real risk it's not a guarantee that you're gonna damaged vehicle but I would I would err on the side of caution -- the triple -- is advising.

You bet wow unbelievable story how the federal government helps us each and every day Jeremy thanks for coming on the show -- it's great to have you here.
