The new year is quickly approaching and with that come New Year's resolution I know -- to break -- back up for all of you who made them last year didn't follow them but.
Have you got one -- two.
But how about making more money how about that resolution Jefferies let's bring -- -- investor place dot com editor he's taken a look at some of the most popular resolutions.
That's a portfolio plays have you to go without -- to come up -- -- Well you know I was kind of looking at ways to make more money in the new year that's an idea I've never really been one effort for New Year's resolutions and -- my ever been like my ice cream I -- sick of sitting welcomed in the decision I've.
So you know you can make money on these trades and maybe you can feel better about the fact you're helping other people what their resolutions -- -- lies we tell ourselves in -- -- anymore ice -- and -- -- and just buy some of these stocks you can about -- about.
Right that -- spend less than but I like the flip side of that which is make more money at least on certain stock picks that you have come up with which I think is very clever.
-- pick for each resolution and we can start with one of the most obvious resolutions and that is to improve our diet.
And -- to eat more helpfully and what's your pick for that.
Well I think that you know there's lot of fad diets and some like that out there about you know if you think about how food in general just a secular trend didn't.
Eating stuff that's more organic it's better for them they want premium stuff especially if they're eating out less on in these tough economic times -- -- do that whole foods is kind of a natural place for me.
-- got a five year growth rate of 20% its earnings and revenue or appear every year all the way back through the recessions this is -- company that hasn't -- The recent downturn in earnings it's also done very very well in the past -- years -- when others haven't when you look at grocery stores in general the margins are very thin.
But whole foods actually has pretty hot hefty margins because that's prepared food is cuts and premium products so if you wanna play that angle I think this is -- the -- at.
And -- think just saying that they were able to lower a few of their items in price and have still managed to keep those margins healthy.
Yeah that's what happens when I mean we still an apple when you when your top dog in the -- business and it really helps even if you should just a little bit off you still hadn't shoulders about the competitors accompanying.
The -- here Kroger -- the number two most popular resolutions gotta be fitness get more fit work out more what's your pick for that one.
Again I.
Actually it.
-- Porter just that the breaking news on my deactivate if I had not yet have a maximum news -- here but I really like Under -- because.
It's been able to erode some of that market share that Nike has not just in -- premium performance apparel stuff for.
-- I -- here in the Washington DC area it's right up the road in Baltimore and on arms and really good job of kind of diversifying into regular casual apparel polo stuff like that.
I think it's a big brand again the growth speaks for itself -- 1% growth rate.
Or earnings and revenue continued up you every year so I really like momentum behind us stock New Year's some people look for a new job what's your new jobs out there -- Well I I think Linkedin is one of the few stories we've seen from the IPO market the last couple years it's actually legit.
I mean it doubled on its first day -- trading almost.
-- stuck there hasn't evaporated -- some of those other stocks we've talked about like Groupon and FaceBook and Zynga so this is -- stock and that's because its customers are real kids is how people look for jobs I mean people don't look at hot jobs anymore to get stuff I mean hotjobs -- classified but I think -- is kind of -- -- the future.
-- I think that companies like monster and hotjobs should look out hotjobs on my Yahoo! should look out.
Hotjobs killed classifieds and it's true and then of course is that -- an old newspaper -- -- but again you know and it's true Jeff because the -- something -- hot that like that we it was at the Palm Pilot where's that now it was a hottest thing and now it's not hardly even in existence I think.
And taking more vacations using your vacation days in the new year.
Yeah I love Priceline I mean I think these -- my travel socks at the way people book travel consumers businesses.
-- -- -- hotels rental cars the thing that I really like about price sizing and you got this organic growth story there a year every year profits revenue continued to move up but it's not just.
This odd growth story that they have the positioning is really good for consumers right now everybody wants the deal they allow people to shop around they had a great -- -- -- that -- Expedia to that right.
Yeah and Expedia -- -- the music -- decides that the same -- about the little bit frothy I I have to admit.
Like -- whole foods with Under -- some -- -- growth he plays -- little propaganda -- side.
Especially Expedia which is that huge run this here.
But I mean if you look at international growth story these guys is not just the -- I think Priceline -- in something like 99 countries right now so.
You shouldn't just look to you know what your friends neighbors are -- -- hobby -- travel let's face -- we all look online I mean there's also big growth abroad for these companies and I think there's some good momentum there for people patented.
We loved the piece you did that's why we brought you want but he's got a whole bunch more we know those aren't the only resolution so go on our FaceBook dot com slash after the bell -- And we've got the rest of Jeff reads picks for the New Year's resolutions Jefferies investor -- dot com he's the editor thanks got a much.
Virginia David over -- -- Well the clock is ticking a way to these budget cuts and big tax hikes for everybody can progress of the White House.
Come to some kind of agreement in order to save us -- time affects the law.
