Some say the Petraeus scandal -- a distraction from the big -- cover up -- what you don't know I don't in fact I believe it may be an important lever with which to pry answers from the stone -- that's been erected by the Obama administration.
Around and Gaza.
That's why -- we asked our next guest who joined us here tonight former CIA operative Gary Bernsen.
Highly decorated burns and -- toward the three years.
In the -- investment service he worked as chief of station in the Middle East and Latin America.
Leaving counterterrorism.
Efforts and it is -- -- to be with us Terry thank you so much.
Well hello this he used -- obviously and breathtakingly incredible story.
But I wondered how more understand.
How in the world the CIA could let its director get into this kind of -- mess.
Can you give a -- -- of them.
Well clearly I think everybody is stunned and you know I at first when I learned that the FBO I was looking.
At the CIA directors emails I was like a little outrage but then -- hear about the spread of this story here about Jill Kelly you hear about.
General -- and you recognize that once the FBI was alerted.
That there were these sorts of contacts and hundreds of not in -- thousand emails in one case that they were thinking counterintelligence problem.
That's what they -- thinking CI.
And so based on that they pursued this very very aggressively this thing has been opened up and it is all on General Petraeus.
This is clearly in his lap there was no one else in the CIA should have known better and he acted in a reckless fashion and then and that's why he's.
You know he was forced to resign.
I guess my question is it would seem to me that reprimand.
Were in his position he would understand he is being surveil.
By his own government is being various agencies.
Are total absence of trade craft -- and he is being -- surveil obviously by the bad guys.
Other bottlers correct what.
What in the world would any director of think he could get away with -- it is.
Have you -- look inside.
It.
It there's no insight on that it's just -- horrible decision making.
You know a level of arrogance a level of arrogance and -- and you know it's best for people not to be arrogant in this competitive and aggressive -- and it kind of conflicted world that terrible terrible judgment on -- -- -- -- They CIA director goes on October 31 two big Ghazi to personally interview agents.
Now all of this obviously well after the attacks on September 11.
It.
What in the world could he possibly be thinking and would he not be thinking of how that looks who is -- His own agency for him to be sitting there are sifting through the papers in the -- of an attack in which.
Someone.
And most suspect.
The director himself failed to save to rescue for Americans who died in that terrorist attack.
Clearly there a big issue in all of this is that CIA does two things it does FY collection that's for intelligence collection -- runs agents.
And produces intelligence from -- White House and then it does Covert action.
And Covert actions we are seeking some sort of outcome but.
To do Covert action you have double finding written it has to be signed by the president -- be presented to congress and the question here is.
Were there things going on on the ground air that they did not a finding on.
Was the NSC the National Security Council possibly doing things in tandem with their ambassador to that they might not have.
Reported we did the agency get involved in these thanks attributed to that.
-- -- -- -- Our Gary is referring to obviously want -- -- well in November October 26 speech -- Was.
At least if not a practice at least in the current.
Of detentions at the CIA and I annexed in been Gaza amounts are trying to.
That what but but on the just say this though.
I don't think that makes any sense because the agency went when people are captured don't keep them in place that would render them off to somewhere else very quickly but that the point here is is.
What there is a larger narrative here that the that the government that this administration White House has not spoken about.
And unfortunately.
You know I mean you're willing to take a beating over this the public beating that they're taking over this because the truce.
Is probably worse than it has some serious consequences and you know if it wasn't for certain elements of the media we wouldn't know they would try to brush this under the -- this may turn out to be a very.
Very large problem for this administration when this entire story is is uncovered.
You have any instinctive -- that story goes next.
Well I think that they'll probably UE I I wouldn't be surprised at least on the Tampa side if you see.
More individuals in contact with.
-- the socialite that was there but I think that you know you'll be looking at the National Security Council I think is where this is gonna go and -- they conducting activities.
That should have been left to the agency did they do things that that that probably.
Required some sort of finding and end the only time is gonna tell.
Her -- some good to have you with thanks -- much pleasure.
