A big topic on the show since the election has been all week -- into a nation of takers instead all of make us.
-- and a half the country accept some common benefit from the government.
Is America becoming an entitlement society.
Joining us now is lowest -- of -- he's former NBA player but he also -- -- the laws on the -- youth organization which helps children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
All right -- you've been on our program before law.
I know your history you essentially escaped from an entitlement mentality and an entitlement -- background.
-- ask you how you did it I'm gonna ask you do you think our analysis is correct but America has become.
And entitlement society.
Well on the you can look at the numbers and and they make that argument.
And obviously don't these difficult times a lot of people who know far don't have to take some form.
Of entitlement but I think.
The the issue really comes down to giving people the tools and resources they need to take control their own destiny but and I think that's something that the president and in this administration has to do another Republican Party has to find a way I agree sure that happens.
But but if you constantly up.
The social spending if you -- than the any more people on food -- more people on unemployment insurance more people on Social Security disability.
More people get funding -- tax credit if -- keep on pushing the money out.
You don't release people.
You you've you've you tie them to government you tolerate them to entitlement don't I think that's exactly what we're doing now.
Well I think we've made it a lot easier for people to receive.
Entitlement -- from that -- -- yes that that would that would be correct.
But how you wean -- -- I think that's the larger issue here and I think that's going to be the dilemma of this administration going forward.
But the large I don't know that that's the dilemma of this administration or the -- all of the administration seems to me.
Winning them audit has been their main goal and taking away any sort of shame.
Opera forum you know maybe being born and -- on food stamps has been their mangle.
Well you -- I I can't speak to 44 for everyone I know for me I hated grown up all all on welfare -- know.
Every day we had to depend.
When the government taking care of us and I -- that feeling but I know bits you -- we have to look at how a lot of things you know particularly with the kids.
You know obviously it's something that that they can -- -- -- control but.
The parents yes.
I agree I think we have to come up with a platform I didn't -- -- a Republican Party there was no platform to empower those less fortunate and I think.
-- estimated life easier for people to support this administration who are disadvantaged if you ran the Republican Party.
What would you tell -- to do right now.
What a pretty simple.
Changes or Brent I mean you we we all know you got a great crew very -- Sometimes you have to changed a brand by say hey this is new and improved yet to be more inclusive.
I didn't like the -- at all in -- Republican Party there was it was all you know.
This group is is don't miss this group is on that in there was nothing.
To engage people of color I didn't see it at all you know you look at the Republican Convention through no people of color you can -- crowd you see a couple -- here there you -- -- democratic metro convention.
You see a lot more diversity.
The Republican Party.
Is is in danger of being a permanent minority if they don't get their act together the loss from the book we appreciate -- being with us -- is again -- back in -- -- entrapment entrapment -- get.
