This we'll -- we stopped the post -- show.

Stop with the last the last -- -- -- all the was released late yesterday.

Governor Romney President Obama neck and neck 49.

Obama -- -- Romney 48 for Obama.

But last night when all the numbers were in the Electoral College showed a big gap.

Much bigger gap the president took 303 Romney 206 and that's with Florida still uncounted.

Joining us now Karl Rove former advisor -- George W.

Bush call was all over the place on television for the last.

Three years I do believe -- -- picked up -- tell me call almost on as often as Stuart Varney.

Because what what.

Wrong.

Looked.

A lot of these races were tight and they fell to Obama by and large in line well.

I think three reasons one is tactical this is mostly -- tactical election.

They had a very good ground game and they played defensive ball the entire time essentially they got.

Most of the people who voted for last time around and that's -- he is the first president to win a second term.

With a smaller percentage of the vote -- anyone in his first election.

They're only to Egypt states in the union Hawaii in Mississippi where he increased his vote -- he did so by less than.

One quarter of 1%.

-- point column but I find it very hard to swallow that the president is reelected who has -- failed right -- in the in most areas of policy.

But he's reelected.

I cannot pull laughed at tactical loss well crown get no no -- -- -- their two strategic things here one is on the issue the economy and and look the exit polls will not be corrected till about noon today.

But in the air -- if if you're if your top issue was the economy 59% of the people said top -- the economy.

Romney won 5147.

We should have done better on that issue we need to make a better case.

For consists center right economic policy -- -- if economic policy was the key issue 59%.

And we still open and the Republicans still lost does that mean that things like social issues were a lot more important this time around than you expected no there there were less so what really matters that is characteristics.

Has a vision for the future most important concern point nine -- -- said it was the most important characteristic Romney -- 5445.

Should've done better.

Shares my values 5542.

Pretty good number for that question is a strong leader.

-- -- -- important great characteristics 61 Romney 38 Obama that here's one cares about people like me now generally I've tended.

Not worry that much about that question because it's like generally 5545.

This was 81 Obama eighteen.

-- they irradiated him as rich guy who didn't care about ordinary people and that made it hard for him to make the economic case the key moment was made fifteen.

Just through June and July and August when he was on the receiving end of all kinds ugly stuff about Bain Capital -- and rich guy.

And I think he -- -- and effectively responded and I I didn't think was going to be as our flows was but you get a number like that -- -- a lot of people resistant to be even -- -- been voted for.

But still felt his rich guy doesn't care about me so I take -- you do not -- my view.

Which is a fundamental view that America has changed in the last four years would become a lot more like Europe.

And a majority of people now want stuff.

From the government.

And they want the other group to pay for -- I think that's a fundamental -- -- shift and you don't think I'm right well I don't I disagree with you do do you agree I think we have become more dependent upon government over the last four years.

But I don't see it being a majority the American people this you know we we see 47% the American people don't pay federal income taxes which -- correct.

But a lot of people who don't pay federal income taxes.

Our older Americans who live and office social security and the accumulated earnings a lifetime and are scared to death about the debt about 47%.

In Fox News exit polls last night.

47%.

Said they wanna tax the rich more write what I was -- look -- look though it is not based on what we did have a law we didn't ask another question was which was do you think that we ought to be raising taxes now when the economy is fragile.

And a -- to a dime to dollar we had it would have been 6040 don't know we should be raising taxes.

Independent swing voters are capable -- -- deeply conflicting opinions at the same time they say tax the rich thinking that it's Donald Trump.

And don't raise taxes on anybody because you know now's not the time to be done and -- fully capable holding those -- what negative for the next four years.

Work like -- can't get -- thought -- wrote a great pleasure thanks for being on the show that I appreciate.
