Peter thank yeah.
That I thought about autos sales in the Missouri and fall October and they look how pretty decent Chrysler even saying October sales with a best in five years and Ford talking succession plans.
Edmunds dot com senior analyst Jessica Caldwell joins me now this morning -- the auto makers are faring in this economy and Jessica when you look at these numbers for.
October and let's bear in mind that.
So Bossone sandy wiped out the last three days of the month what's your overall sense of three the industry right now.
Fairly good he made a good point you know this to storm -- You know pretty much made -- hard to -- -- vehicle and that northeast are you know people that we're not glued to the television other parts of the country.
And that mix of about 17% of total cells.
In the month of October generally when you look at historically so that's a big chunk of cells.
So considering that the numbers that we're seeing are positive from a lot of the auto makers some are more active than others of course.
I think that speaks you know -- good news in terms of the auto industry in general.
Well we've got the the graphic up now -- can -- sales for GM it's the biggest the largest US -- -- -- for a half percent hero of the year.
What -- highlights would you pick out for the GM in this last month.
Then why you know you -- Chevy at a decent month but you know if you look at GMC would solve the water trucks.
That had a pretty decent months -- -- we're seeing that not as affected.
By the storms and you because a lot of the people in the metropolitan northeast tend to favor -- smaller cars.
-- involved cells are pretty impressive this month when you look at you know how they've done.
And Cadillac India could launch new cars so there also you know -- for pretty well.
But we look at -- -- the sales drop point 4%.
But the estimate was for up three and a half percent to me that's quite a big miss what you'll -- -- All right important middle launching their vehicles they have the fusion coming out they have escape which has just come out so it could be a point in -- You're not really getting all the vehicles that he got all the dealerships across the country so whenever -- companies kind of in flocks in terms of the models that make up a big percentage.
Of their sales things like this a you know could certainly happen I think the longer term -- common November December to see how these numbers will change -- amounts.
If they're really is a problem or not but I think it could be you know logistical issue there for them what.
I'm sticking with Ford's management team well -- -- Alan Mulally will be remains CEO at least 32014.
Thoughts.
It appears that mark fields the head of Ford Americas is the heir apparent what are your thoughts on -- -- minute thinking you know that there was a big questions surrounding board of how long -- -- it was gonna stay in business obviously.
The Ford family and a lot of people like him to stand for along time.
You know -- certainly over the past years has played a big role in you know Ford's turnaround because -- -- much different conference companies and they were just a few years ago.
I -- still think through the end of 2014 as a long time to -- attendants are really.
Point who's gonna be the next person but.
You know I think if things go well I think eight it it could be anybody but I think you know obviously -- -- The obvious choice at this moment -- Jessica finally I've -- -- told more about.
Does the hurricane -- the super storm as it's being called.
On the flip side of this yes it hurts sales for the last three days of this month.
Bluff once lose insurance claims stop playing paying up of those flooded vehicles -- we see a nice boosting costs sales as a result.
Certainly saw I think it'll be spread on the used car site -- -- I think we're looking Apple's new and use and what's really gonna help people out there is credit is cheap Sonya that's finance rates out there both -- financing for new and also be seen.
Things are -- -- that really helps are people that weren't planning on buying a new vehicle so I think that we could see.
You know generally -- healthy Bob for a first car cells in general both new and used.
It was a silver lining we're always looking for a Jessica Caldwell senior analyst Edmunds dot com thank you so much.
Thank you.
