Former New York governor George Pataki on how bad this could get you know governor you've been here with the -- -- the crises and how they developed and now.
This -- midtown skyscraper -- up.
Drama unfolding.
As governor what do you do when this is -- -- had his -- peoples state com.
Don't lose that rocked.
Well -- I think there -- New Yorkers are there have been through.
A lot over the last -- a year them where as well prepared as anyone in the important thing -- -- just listen to the emergency.
Leaders.
In other city -- you just indicated it has cleared a Tawny block radius around where their brain is.
Dangling that's exactly the right thing to do you can't just hope it doesn't fault.
You have to prepare in the eventuality that it does.
People have been ordered to evacuate certain parts of long now and other places listen to the professionals who you know we have the best emergency responders.
In the world in new York and we can have confidence in them and I'm sure New Yorkers -- I'm already hearing reports that a New -- to take shelter emergency.
The situation is now -- sued.
On so obviously they see something a lot worse common.
Or that could be coming -- -- look up six avenue where.
You could see our facility of most of these are by generators.
Power is out in a good chunk of Manhattan.
You always worry about what happens there in black out sometimes we we have a lot of nasty stuff that goes on well how do you watch that.
Well you know I don't think that's going to be the case I think give -- a long time ago on we have the problems with the anti social behavior and a black -- situation I think Yorkers and Americans really understand now we're all in this together and we're going to get through it together but obviously you do -- you hit it on the head that people are anticipating or at least warning -- could get worse as the night goes -- so the important thing is -- -- -- you just talked about that the tragic loss of Deloitte and queens from a tree falling.
You know I've lost power as well appear in the Hudson Valley where I am and I'm sure throughout the metropolitan region now there are hundreds of thousands of people without power.
And the greatest danger now if you're not on the coast -- flooding -- with the wind causing trees to come down.
Or debris to to took quiet away addicting.
Really kill people so stay inside -- -- it's an absolute emergency you have to leave listen to the emergency.
Experts and have confidence because we've been through this time and again we always get through that come back stronger.
And we had the best emergency responders and oral.
You do indeed -- -- -- -- I think it's different this time to governor a look at the facade of a although a small a building in Chelsea.
Just the other way going down -- Manhattan.
Where -- the entire front facade collapsed but.
Generators I think that's a very big difference now governor it's not like in the in the sixties and seventies famous black -- where.
Power went out for everybody a lot of these buildings have their own generators that to keep them up and running and -- the appearance of of of being.
You know normal.
We're we didn't have that before.
Now let's get Soledad that's very much the case particularly in and the emergency facilities and hospitals and nursing homes and places where it's absolutely critical that we maintain power we also I think have the ability to -- backtracked quicker and it's not just leave the MPs in the fire in the place it's also.
-- -- -- -- -- workers the other utility workers who who are out there and know that.
They need to react quickly because.
-- -- literally lives can hang in the balance I think we're better prepared I think we do have more distributed power like generators we have the ability to every respond to problems quicker.
So for -- -- magnitude of this horrendous storm.
And the risk that opposes.
Just have confidence because.
With New York is ready you can be and I'm sure we will respond as well as want -- I think you're right governor it's always pleasant sir thank you very much thank you -- former New York governor.
