Thank you well now we move on to the other side of the -- and I'm joined now by Democrat democratic former congressman -- -- -- Fox News contributor thank you so much for joining us congressman.
Great to be with you.
So let's move to that moved to the other side of the debate questions tonight.
You know what can we expect.
From President Obama do you believe in this debate tonight that we haven't seen from President Obama -- past couple debates specifically.
Focusing on.
Foreign policy.
Well I think you'll hear him talk about a number of things.
First and foremost the success with regard to killing Osama bin Laden.
Putting the pressure upon al-Qaeda.
Which is your previous guest noted -- had a lot of pressure on them in Afghanistan the tribal areas of Pakistan.
They've been forced to flee elsewhere.
And I think you'll hear him talk about that the continued efforts to try and strengthen our country domestically because it's.
Difficult to be strong abroad -- -- we have a growing economy getting the deficit down increasing energy independence of home I think you'll hear about some of those themes as well.
Do you believe at this point that the president has done -- not to prevent.
-- -- from going nuclear that's likely to be -- heavily debated topic tonight.
Well -- really ratchet ratcheted up the pressure on Iran you may have seen recently the value of their currency has dropped by about 40% in just the last.
Month or so inflation is running rampant in Iran because of the international sanctions that have been brought to bear.
Of the Iranian people are really undergoing some substantial economic distress now because of the pressure.
That the administration has been able to orchestrate along with the European allies and others.
To bring that of -- upon Iran now having said that.
Iran is continuing to pursue their nuclear program we've increased the cost -- them doing so.
The president has said he will not take the potential use of force off the table.
But he knows that if it comes to that it would be much more effective we have the rest of the world by our side.
And that's what he's attempting to arrange right now pressure Iran make sure other nations we with us if ultimately sometime next year he's forced to take more direct steps.
The other side is also been very critical of President Obama for not taking a tougher stance on Russia analog -- anti American policy specifically its support for Syrian president aside.
Do you believe that present -- bomber right now will come out with a stop tougher stance on Russia.
Well -- bidders -- -- -- -- what what do they propose that we do with regard to Russia I mean how do we penalize them for saying things and doing things that we don't like.
Well I think our relationship with Russia is a pretty obvious -- at this point where they sit -- their best interest to cooperate with us they'll do so.
We -- our best interest to cooperate with them will do so where we disagree then we're gonna have -- some conflict and President Putin.
Who's not as -- north and Russia as he once was.
Is using the United States in the west in general.
To try and need to reflect dissatisfaction internally with regard to the state of the Russian economy.
And I think that some of that will be down to continue so look I think we'll start to have a forthright honest relationship with Russia we think the wrong will say so.
-- a perfect example with regard to that we strongly disagree with Russia's standing by the Asad regime.
I -- Treasury Department has been very reluctant to to call China -- currency manipulator this -- -- -- we -- on this network quite often.
Do you personally believe that that China manipulates its currency to its own advantage.
Yes I do I think they've been doing that for quite some time.
-- question is whether you're saying that explicitly at a time were borrowing so much money from them.
Is in the best interest of the United States are not that they've allowed their currency to appreciate fairly substantially over the last year.
Probably because of their own domestic situation wanted to keep inflation under control.
But that being said here if this is a -- example again -- yes they're manipulating their currency.
The best way to do something about that to allow us to just say the obvious which is they're doing that.
Is to become less dependent upon borrowing money from the Chinese because of the Chinese right now said.
Hey we don't like the fact that you're making these assertions were not gonna lend you money anymore.
That would cause the interest rates that we have to pay to borrow money to go up maybe substantially.
That would not be the best interest the American economies of the best way for us to have a more.
Forthright candid relationship -- China is to become less dependent upon them financially.
Final thing I'd say -- the administration does have a good track record with regard to bringing trade cases.
Against China when they -- so -- banners or example there are some other areas.
There's an example -- brought trade cases to try and get -- to.
Abide by the letter of the law.
All right well we have to leave it there your just your final classy -- -- Obama convict sick regain his momentum tonight.
I think you started doing that the second debate -- if you look at the polls I think that foreign policy -- more naturally into his.
It is strength but I think for both of them -- what you ought to look for is both of them to trying to pivot.
To do two things focus back on the strengthening us domestically and secondly foreign policy is a proxy for character they're gonna wanna be a project strength resolve.
Look for some of that tonight.
