New reports of militant showing strength in -- Gaza before the attack on the US council.

The terrorists even held a conference in June which was attended by the bulk of the -- Qaeda network in Libya.

That according to a pentagon research report.

Joining me now Fox News national security analyst KT McFarland she's held national security posts under.

Presidents Nixon Ford and break KT first let's deal with.

If we made that debate the president making the straight forward statement.

That he declared it to be a terrorist attack the day after -- Ghazi.

And I have to tell you did the press has been absolutely mute.

On that statement by the president.

It's remarkable.

It's it's great greatest story of our time which is that the press the service see no legal -- really will.

-- no -- and the cult of Obama but the word terror may have.

Left his lips and that Rose Garden ceremony.

But it had nothing to do with the grand gas attack him for two weeks -- -- this retail it was all as a result.

The demonstration that got out of hand as a result of the YouTube music that was made up a whole cloth why.

Because that was not part of their narrative five days before that attack the president is -- the Democratic Convention.

And he said Al -- his -- in al-Qaeda is back on its heels and yet five days later.

And al-Qaeda attacks.

American embassies in Yemen and Egypt and in the consulate in many of kills four Americans and went on the -- -- the Middle East hardly an al-Qaeda its rights you.

Harland our candidates on its heels and also the president has dropped the reference from al-Qaeda is on the run into speeches -- day.

Our our on the campaign trail this is a significant shift as -- -- Yeah sure he's been saying this part of his campaign speech and part of his whole foreign policy legacy and why he feels he should be elected he tells -- American people.

-- -- -- There weren't terrorists over and Al -- -- shields al-Qaeda Spanish al-Qaeda is in the dust heap of history.

Well it's not al-Qaeda has now expanded its in regions of the world it was not in even two years ago.

And there was a panic on report.

In the summer in August saying they'll kinda -- Libya and it had gone from an organizational.

Terror recruitment stage and was ready to go operational.

That was a month before September 11 they knew something.

And what's coming it Libyan security officials.

They have sent from the outset that it was a terrorist but right the president.

On one level saying that he did you know that what he was in debating was that it was a terrorist attack.

And there is not a -- I'm unaware of the name anywhere in the national liberal media saying.

The president could not be more intellectually inconsistent if not -- -- contradictory and then to suggest he said it was a terrorist attack and then -- for weeks.

And permit issue the permit order -- UN ambassador to go on television network broadcast that following Sunday.

To declare it was an Internet video had nothing to do with terrorism when it was simply a response to a spontaneous response to riots.

Those rights -- spontaneous response to that video.

This is outrageous.

It is even more outrageous perhaps.

Or at least equally so.

That -- fourth estate in this country would take no notes.

It really is pretty extraordinary because -- president was saying this is UN ambassador were saying the secretary of state was saying this.

Over the if I -- -- often have been dead Americans.

And yet at the same time there intelligence professionals and clean -- security officers sustained just gaps that they should who was a terrorist attack from the very beginning.

Well they were watching it we learn real time in real time.

-- with all of the technology deployed.

By the United States intelligence community and of course our State Department.

In part of which it is one in the same.

But the fact is that there was no response in real time there was no acknowledgment.

Even in a timely fashion that this was a terrorists attack.

And that we have hours from which to -- analyzed to understand to comprehend and -- make and not only to make a statement clarifies statement.

To the American people.

Well -- -- act.

We didn't even rescue them and when I was in the Pentagon and the -- that they were coming in 1983.

All hands on deck everybody in that region went to the area how could they help.

What happened and then gusting well I didn't send a commando -- we didn't know what was going to be the outcome of this -- -- going to be data -- it could have been hostages held.

We didn't we just left -- there.

One fell.

In last night so called town -- meeting.

And by the way as an aside I believe that we will never see another town hall debate presidential debate this country after that.

The thing the man asked simple question -- the president.

Move -- -- security for Ben -- It was a flat out invasion he ignored the man's question.

And the moderator didn't follow up even though she had declared for days that that was what she would be -- Infatuated and the other saturated in favor of the present a great question it was who deny the security and why.

And the president didn't answer he said nobody cares more than I do it get to the bottom of this we've got commission's going to look into it.

I really care I'm worried about terrorists and but he never answered the question that was a pretty straightforward and simple question.

And the American people still don't have an answer.

I have to man who has an ambassador throughout the region in the Reagan administration he said everywhere I -- I had a security detail that followed me everywhere.

S ambassador had nothing.

Governor around you missed a number of opportunities to set the record straight to at least challenge the president on the record.

How significant are those missed opportunities for the governor.

In your judgment.

I don't think it's that big a deal the big deal for foreign policy certainly is going to be Monday night -- the Monday -- foreign policy debate where is governor Romney and the officials we know president.

A bombing as -- started -- Hutchison leaves and everything's a great success but there a lot of failures in foreign policy leadership in the last for years and it's an opportunity.

For governor -- later related.

But it to the American people -- teach him function thank you.
