It was a war of words between vice president Joseph Biden in GOP hopeful Paul Ryan in their first and only debate the candidates clashed over foreign policy spending taxes and everything else.
For more on last night's debate after -- right Dan Clifton head of policy research at strategic research partners -- so much for joining us what your take.
Now that you know first it's very hard to decide who the winner was of this election clearly to be vice president.
Yeah I -- well Vice President Biden was really targeting to trying to get the Democrats more energized after last week's debate on the other side.
Up Paul Ryan was trying to show that if something was to happen he can be present the United States I think did -- met the bar what they were trying to do but it is very different than last week where there was a clear winner.
Mitt Romney beat Barack Obama that's not the case in this like.
I don't watching it last night that sort of each side was nodding along and saying you know my guy did a great job my guy won it just it seemed -- -- -- even across the board you think that's -- do you think that's a fair assessment.
Well ideally I think that's the way most debates -- -- last week with the very rare -- -- -- Melissa I'll say this you know at the same time we're starting to see what Obama's strategy is going to be next week in that is.
Don't let Mitt Romney get his rhythm and I think that's what Vice President Biden was trying to do and he did it very effectively so you're starting to see how other adjusting to that defeat in last week's debate.
In next week's debate should be very interest and.
It you know the vice presidential debate doesn't really it's easily do that much right and less -- And let's there's a knockout blow or -- somebody looks like they could not filled the role of president of the disaster were to happen right.
Well that's absolutely correct in the thing about debates is we may not know what the impact of that debate was this morning.
But over the next couple days Melissa we can start to see some of what they said come to light for example Vice President Biden was talking a lot about Libya that they -- you know that there was a request for extra security.
And I think comments like that if -- -- going to be some that proves that there was a request fractures security.
There -- the types of moments where can start making a big impact.
I would also say that this race is so close that if somebody moves that just a little bit in one of these debates it can make a real difference at this point so that's why we have to watch -- moving forward did you.
We learned anything about anyone's policy last night that was surprising -- -- -- Well I would say -- that Vice President Biden was very effective in making sure that we couldn't learn what Paul Ryan was gonna say about policy as we saw Paul -- talking about his tax reform for -- you saw the focus group not going higher and that's when he would interject and cut -- Paul -- -- -- it's very hard to learn about policy when you keep in -- people and taking them off their strides I think that was the biggest take away from last managed -- current pick up and thanks so much right.
