And now joining the conversation now from Washington from the University of Maryland economist.

-- -- -- C is with this and dad yet Peter we're not gonna try to separate the two -- -- the big story this week in the presidential debates from the jobs report this morning so you know.

I guess it's my best Jim Lehrer impersonation.

Jobs in politics you have two minutes -- Well essentially the jobs report can't be a good report for mr.

Obama if mr.

Romney uses -- properly.

After remember the -- over 5000.

Cities and counties in the United States -- got 200000.

What would that mean.

It would mean twenty new jobs in each city and county can you imagine that twenty new jobs in Manhattan to solve the problem that we have.

The jobs growth -- so tepid.

That and the president the -- lower our expectations.

That it should be it's possible mr.

Romney to make something out of today in a way that he hasn't in the past.

Well short of the two minutes.

Very good Peter so Bob all right let's talk about that a little bit more than I was gonna let taken -- the question but you know what -- as we'll take it.

So he that the question then moving forward before Romney as you said there is how to capitalize on this do you expect him to do watch it the next.

A few days -- the jobs report comes in today.

We have no idea what -- -- but for arguments sake let's just say it's an average report -- 100000 jobs whatever it might be.

If you're Romney do you stay on jobs jobs jobs make it about the president's.

Critical failure in that department where you shifted its more the tone a centrist tone as he took in the debate what do you think.

I think a centrist tone is important however with regard to jobs he -- start focusing on where the numbers are big.

Half of all college graduates can't find some kind of decent job is that the kind of America that young people want.

-- many old folks older folks ended -- being retired age but people between the ages of fifty.

And 65 have lost their jobs have little hope of finding anything meaningful.

And are running down the iris assets long before they -- I think it is a start talking about some of those kinds of people.

Unfortunately.

The weak point of mr.

Romney's campaign -- his economic advisors -- largely retreads from the Bush Administration.

Who really don't believe in the kinds of things that he has been talking about.

You know they would cut taxes for real -- not the tax cut that mr.

Romney's talk about where he makes it up -- raise you know by flattening the system.

And and eliminating deductions and that I think -- -- -- to stay on the trade issue on the energy issue.

-- talk about where there aren't jobs and where he can make jobs happen.

Peter what about though.

You kind of touched on this its style over substance.

That will cause Romney was stood out so much on style vs the president during the debate.

Maybe this substance did it it's getting screened by the Democrats after the fact but there is substance and the numbers didn't have that we're not.

That much of a focus is that the -- next go round.

I don't think it's a danger of Romney knows how to exploited.

Mr.

Obama is fairly elitist he's very aristocratic -- -- temperament and you sort.

Not just this interest but this staying -- mr.

Romney.

Now folks out there might think one way or another way about mr.

Romney's velocity but that doesn't -- well.

-- looks best when he is what he has which is -- CEO and that makes him look presidential he's got to get out of those jeans.

And starts getting a -- of a blue black ground with several American flags.

And start to talk about how he'd leave the country and let mr.

Obama reactor because when mr.

Obama -- asked to react to Romney.

We see the real Obama he views people who are successful -- contempt he has a great deal of jealousy for -- I mean have you ever heard him give a major economic speech.

Or presentation where he hasn't taken a slam at oil companies it's almost like a bias it's almost -- visceral contempt.

I think that all Romney hasn't always -- himself he'll bring this out of Obama and in the end of the day he could get himself elect.

It funny sound like Peggy -- in the Wall Street Journal is pointless showed on did you tell Mitt Romney and now depicted out of the jeans and all that time -- always good to see able -- casino okay.

Take care emergency always depends on the kind of jeans or where I -- you're gonna say that act until July diet had to say.
