That it's basically helps you build your social -- and allows you to use your social well that's coming up we'll have a couple of CEO's coming your way -- first we're gonna talk.
Aluminum and it's not just for cans anymore we're gonna bring in Heidi brought she's -- president of the aluminum association.
Hi Heidi thanks so much for joining us here on Fox Business today.
Thanks Robert it's great to be here are well first of all you know we've we've heard more about aluminum that -- lately -- Ford is one company that jumps into mind this recently talked about.
Going to more aluminum in the body of their F 150s -- -- -- the most popular vehicle in the US so this is zero not.
Not really putting a toe in the water they're jumping into the deep end with this but.
Not many people may know this are using it in the hoods of a number of there -- vehicles out there but talk Roosevelt.
First of all.
Why people are choosing aluminum instead of -- -- -- some of the other heavier metals.
Well thanks Robert you know we think aluminum is the sustainable material of choice.
And that's because you can recycle it over and over and over again and that's why more than 75% of the aluminum ever produced is still in use today.
And so when companies like the auto industry are looking to improve their fuel efficiency standards.
They're looking for high strength they're looking for low weight and aluminum is a great solution for that.
Yeah and talk to us job about all of -- more we we talked about Ford Motor but.
Other companies that are using it -- I believe is already been using it in a lot of it and a lot of people may not know this.
How long have they been using Illumina and what percentage is -- making up in this the -- 88 I believe is the sports car model yeah.
You know the 88 -- -- a real front runner in innovation with aluminum in 1998 they came out with the first all aluminum.
The vehicle and that vehicle has been allowing it to -- fuel economy standards.
There really compete well with hybrids in its class and that's why -- -- talking about doing as well because it lightens the bid vehicle so obviously can get better gas rise doesn't take as much job horse power -- to pull the car.
I think -- that's smaller engines in there and still do you have the same kind of thought.
-- in theory anyway the same kind of power.
In there.
Also told us about electronics now -- of the new iPhone 5 has just come out a lot of people.
I you're talking about -- -- the look at vetted Tim Cook in the executives on stage I was covering events -- Cisco they were certainly hyping it up.
The fact that has this aluminum backing on it.
How this partnership come about.
You know the relationship with the iPhone has gone back several generations so earlier versions of the iPhone.
Used aluminum and we're thrilled to see that the iPhone 5 has gone back to aluminum.
You know what you see aluminum in electronics across the board and that's because you've got sleek modern design.
You've got your ability and again it's lighter weight and so that makes it very appealing for the consumer.
Yeah I you know I know a lot of us.
-- dating myself a little bit here but remember you know watching NFL -- senile caught famously had -- you make the call right so.
Synonymous with cans for many people -- our.
Beer cans.
And the like but is not just for beer cans now I mean.
Do you think about sort of the the mass -- out there but the craft.
Beer industry is really.
Starting to embrace it as well let me craft -- you started -- more of a draft movement that is now says the popularity is -- for certain brands -- -- got growing their.
Region if you well -- people when he -- enjoy some me up from sake Colorado but they're clearly not really have to get them here somehow aside from cans and cans are becoming.
More and more popular.
You know I think all of us associated our experience with aluminum with the can.
And we're thrilled to see that increasingly craft brewers are turning to aluminum as the sustainable packaging of choice.
You know it it doesn't let the light again it doesn't let oxygen in.
And importantly it doesn't break like class does.
And so what you're seeing is you know the product to -- it's higher it's more reliable -- its delivery to the consumer.
And then -- so portable you know you can throw it in your bag if you're going out hiking are you going to a picnic.
And you can get at home safely from the store -- Now the critics would point -- you know that it can taste a little Tinny not have veto that that -- you know that capture the purest prefer the bottle or straight out -- -- How do you contend the -- that and also for those who are concerned about safety in terms of going back to the pick -- trucks and in the -- maybe not being as reinforced this deal.
You know let me first talk about the strength in the auto industry.
If you flown in a plane recently you've been flying an aluminum.
And I know we all care about our troops overseas and the safety of our troops increasingly aluminum is being used as -- protection be -- protection.
Application in those military.
Solutions so.
Aluminum has got great strength properties again high strength and low -- And in the taste area with that with packaging sustainable packaging.
You know countless taste tests have been done alumina aluminum continues to come out on top.
Every draft beer that you know any of us have experienced over the years comes out of out of an aluminum cakes so I think those taste issues.
Really are not a concern.
I think of the past -- -- have to have you back mab in studio we can do a taste test.
On winds coming in aluminum because that's that's nude -- that is news to me it's some breaking news but.
-- to talk a little bit more about that on the next visit Heidi thanks so much for joining us -- Brock.
The president of the aluminum association joining us from DC.
All right we're gonna take a quick break here.
