-- turning back to the president's so called new economic patriotism.

The polls and what we can expect there with a final forty days now what the -- Election Day.

Former Clinton advisor Fox News political analyst Doug -- Also Ed Rollins veteran campaign strategist former Reagan political director.

Ed good to have you when -- thank you very much for being here di -- here let me start with.

First this new theme.

We can all I think agree that.

The president has a thing called what is it forward right or I've been trying to guess what is the Romney name.

It can anybody -- -- with all due respect Ed Rollins has run presidential campaigns and run them soon.

-- successfully.

I can't for the life of me figure out.

What precisely.

Governor Romney is offering as an alternative.

To President Obama is -- only get real deep I wanna be very superficial here.

I want to understand what the -- them if you will the motto for Romney is.

There there is on.

-- it's just.

That the the president has failed and and and and gave -- shot this kind of what what the scenario is which has been very effective obviously by the polls or any other measurement.

That this is a man ready to sell himself -- you don't have to be president is simply because you get the Republican nomination of the democratic nomination.

And I think he has thirty days this point in time if I was running his campaign which -- BC I'm not.

I would mention the -- everybody basically in this country knows this president has failed and nobody gonna go vote for this president thinking he's been a great president.

Why -- ever heard so many people with so much advice and I mean it's right in all we're -- campaigns I've but I've covered.

-- reported on if this mrs.

I have never seen so many people including Democrats.

So willing to offer.

A candidate in this case governor Romney advice about how to quickly turn your campaign around in the final forty day.

It's not a quick -- and I think that I think Agassi they're not listening to many people but he has to go sell.

What his alternative -- at this point in time is at the Ryan plan it's at least -- -- -- Portman.

-- -- is Paul Ryan then -- I think he's been invisible because they're not focusing on what the American people wanna hear about jobs economic growth rate path.

For work for the country that strengthens our position in the world and asserts our uniqueness as a nation what.

I would I think that's and -- say that I mean that is absolutely -- But my question is with the president who has now an economy -- -- a 13% plunge in durable goods orders.

Which takes is back to the -- the heart of the recession.

Went up from which we are sensibly to have recovered.

Over these three and a half years.

With a year -- that are commonly destroying the second quarter one point 3%.

-- with 23 million people unemployed.

When I hear the the slogan it's the economy still but I think -- the one -- stupid here because the American people are not responding to what is right.

Horrible economy.

A horrible economic situation and his -- and no plan to go forward right it is -- a part of this doesn't want.

Eight planned from governor Romney not attack ads not more criticism they get your point they want to know what the.

Specifics on to something memorable just just something to give them hope we hope and change was a very fancy -- that Odyssey turned out not -- meaning.

This particular case I -- this particular case.

You know all they're doing -- is beating up a president that people still like.

Feel it may have failed as a presidency.

But are not offering an acceptable alternative.

I -- a how much can you -- commander but here's Italy -- and how much can you like a man who is not deliberately shouldn't be an end at the end of the day submitted feel leader.

But here's -- here's what happens.

I'm gonna cut your taxes but I'm not sure how much.

I'm -- -- basically repeal Obama care but I'm not sure how much.

There's a lot of things about them -- -- that it out on Medicare at a -- not gonna run like crazy government but I have to wait to meet with the comparable actually that's the President Obama who's cutting a bomb but that's that's my point.

That's the -- on their slogans.

And the -- saying Liz here's my plan I've been running for president for six years here's what I'm gonna do.

And and I think that's why and he doesn't always -- That's if that's true if you're right both the -- said the same thing we have.

That the voters want specificity they want to plan.

Why in God's name would they not want.

Performance and a plan from the president of the United States who has failed to this point in his administration they -- -- they only pay big to their point is that well not according to the Paulson know what they're saying in the polls as we don't particularly have confidence in Obama but we have lesson governor Romney.

This is not good news for the president it's very bad news forgot what -- every -- I've got this right gentlemen.

Basically what you're saying to -- is that this president.

Who is blamed his policy failures on his predecessor that currency risk and now has the wonderful advantage of running against an opponent whom he can blame.

Per script of late for the next four years of failure without even correcting a -- that was that correct yes and everywhere -- this.

He does all of this area at act they -- thing that -- me getting anything done this for forty years I look at the polls I see the country clearly wants change they want someone new.

They like Obama.

But they'd only been a very strong leader yet to -- level form.

That basically shows me that Romney has failed to be an acceptable alternative he's failed because there's no plan.

And at the end of the day of the next thirty days he's got to be a salesman he's got -- -- -- about the president -- himself.

-- talking about himself.

-- -- is that we find out how -- -- debates.

Is that sufficient.

Is that it is -- -- crowds sufficient it's right it's not a quick fix he needs specific ideas.

And something he can dwell on going forward that gives a credible and clear alternative.

You -- understand because we've known one another reform time.

I'm certainly and the deepest respect for but I am -- very hard time bridging that that chasm of incredulity.

I had the idea that a president would not be responsible for his record but a challenger would be responsible for his recommendations.

It's a carrier -- it is it is your election and I and I think what should have been a slam dunk and we should -- Republicans should be ten points ahead because of the failure this president.

And we're failing miserably to -- could put forth an altered.

It's actually right.

This is an electorate that wants to vote for change their question is governor why should we vote for you.

How do you resolve all the questions we have about you.

And what are you -- clear alternatives to the current mess that question has to be answered that the governor -- Our -- thank you very much as all that thank you that.
