So much so what we know that huge public pensions are bankrupting cities and states across the country.

While state employees are making more than people in the same jobs a private companies may be some change need to be made.

In the way public employees are being paid because the fear right now is that taxpayers gonna be left holding back -- ending allowance.

With me now straight from releasing a report today is Tom -- -- is the president of Citizens Against Government Waste.

Let's start with first the fight over the numbers because of course you have your seven numbers that you've heard the rebuttal there are saying that your numbers are -- -- How would you make about.

All that matters analyst says that there is not enough money to pay these people for their retirement benefits we can talk about is the compensation -- -- lower for certain categories.

But the information that was provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics which takes the state compensation information.

Was -- that within these 22 categories for each state and analyzed by very.

You know very Smart group of people who.

Didn't I Linear programming all kinds of ways to look at it and you can pick and choose whatever you like but when cities are going broke.

And these liabilities are so massive and that's the underlying issue and the only way you can address -- by the way is current and future employees and their compensation.

Because there isn't much you can do that to the current liabilities because it's a -- -- obligation.

I don't yet know about -- -- -- argument for different time but where was the biggest gap in terms of the types of jobs I mean in what industry did you see government workers making it much more than those in the private sector.

Well on average it was about 40% for architecture and engineering is one category education.

Training library services and any other was protective services and I know again there's a difference between.

You what you might say is a security guard -- of police officer firefighter.

But you know architecture and engineer apple that -- Really strange to -- has yet because I can see here when you compare our police officer.

Who's really out there with the life on the line carrying a -- -- fireman he's running into burning -- building vs somebody who's working security still learned a great job.

But I don't think those -- necessarily that comparable I can see -- they would make more but with engineers and architects.

How how does anyone justify.

-- by the way and that protective services are also lifeguard so it's a broad category up.

The say the least well but the yes architects seem to be looking at the same kinds.

Activities.

On the other hand some of these government buildings are pretty nice because the taxpayers are paying for them not the private sector.

Yet and there were some places were you found the private sector was making a lot more than the public sector just be fair one of them with state and local government employees.

In management in professional occupations right I mean that was one place where.

-- the private employee was making a lot more but -- obvious situation where your -- where you're comparing somebody like Mayor Bloomberg.

Who runs the Citi to somebody like Jamie Dimon you know who runs JPMorgan Chase right.

Again not necessarily it's a broad category thousands of people in each particular area it's going to vary by state certainly in New York private sector.

Manage and we pay higher than in other states.

Utah and Montana -- with a two closest to the private sector in terms of compensation again that makes some sense.

The California.

Paid the highest amount straight dollar amount of any state Texas have a large -- largest -- disparity.

Those two states are listed -- much everywhere is having -- some of the largest unfunded pensions California's basically brokered going broke.

I mean it's interesting from -- you know all my gosh perspective but at the same time.

Does that really matter if you can't pay the bill doesn't really matter -- they're making more or less than the private sector.

Other point is to bring it closer in terms of pay -- look at pay overall because again the only way to address this long term.

Is to reduce compensation and benefits and by the way a lot of unions around the country a lot of employees are recognizing this is a problem.

They're cooperating with both Republican and democratic governors and local officials.

And that that it has to be done -- there will be no money to even pay the salaries let alone the benefits in the future.

Yeah and states are going broke with taxpayers paying public workers more than they make themselves is sort of the point Tom Schatz thanks for coming -- we appreciate your time.

Thank you with the President Obama rails against -- equal pay for women on the campaign trail but his calls for equal pay between the sexes.

Using a little bit of Fuzzy -- we are gonna hear from both -- and breakdown some of the numbers that's coming up next.

All -- and that brought by the way plus bringing an end in our TV NFL and it's a real referee -- Finally strike a deal what Thursday night kick -- just hours away.

So -- kidnapped on top -- breaking down the bottom line piles of money for -- -- breeze coming up on the other side of this break.

Son of a single mom and proud father to daughters.

President Obama knows that women being paid 77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work -- isn't just -- -- It hurts families so the first law he signed custom really Ledbetter fair pay.

Helped ensure that women have paid this sameness and more because President Obama know.

Fairness for women -- Yeah.

I'm Barack Obama and I approved this -- Far government says it is not quite as simple as that we crunch the numbers and found that some a bit.

Is because women often work fewer hours -- have been with the same employer for shorter period of time.

How big of a problem is this with me now to debate is democratic for.

-- rally Fox News contributor and author a backlash.

Ladies -- to both of you for joining us you know we have eaten.

This debate raged on over time and as you break down the numbers and as I watch these ads it strikes me not a lot of cases.

Women have taken time off from work as we said not been with an -- -- or have chosen jobs.

So that they can work fewer hours and -- perhaps a primary care provider at home.

Not that that's fair or not that that makes any any better but it does have a lot to do is not exactly like they're both doctors.

Working in the same spot and the woman is making you know seventy cents on the dollar -- how do you respond to that.

Actually that's not true even when you control for all those factors and you control for geography like you did in the last segment about where you live.

Your education not just -- what kind of education but what school all those factors.

Women always make less and in most cases it's 77 cents on the dollar.

I don't know one woman who at some point their career hasn't confronted the horrible reality that there male colleagues and the same job was making more money than they are.

And oh by the way when you add to with the fact that only of all the fortune 500 companies.

All they're only nineteen women CEOs six from the top 1000.

In the top ten.

When it doesn't happen at the top it certainly doesn't happen in the middle -- the bottom eat it every woman knows they never make as much as the guy next to them.

-- what do you think about that because you know any time you make a CEO argument I always feel like it sort of falls apart because what it takes to become the CEO of a company is this relentless -- up to the top and you know a lot of people like myself have stopped to have children have work fewer hours a different points in time because you wanna be home more.

You know I I think it's it's it may or may not be right but there're there are reasons why there are more men who becomes CEOs are gonna disagree -- right there are.

The reasons why people make different choices based on their needs and life but.

Yeah I don't believe government should be involved in setting the standard -- what's salaries should be salaries should be based on the market and competition.

Now based on government and is and is very misleading because it's -- it's changing the date -- the fit their own debate for Obama he's -- the woman card.

-- plated with health -- now he's playing it with salaries and this case is that is very misleading because is not comparing jobs.

Apples to apples when it comes to men and women.

You want to respond to that -- it.

-- you look at the facts you look at the census that it it absolutely does that.

And here's why it matters when women make glass at some point in their life they have the support themselves OK either because they're single by choice -- divorce or their spouse dies severe unable to support themselves and their their loved ones better the less you make every year the lesson retirement the -- and -- -- -- assertive and all he is -- rounds a minute.

-- is another issue who said that they don't even have the data than me to make this comparison.

This is why this that is very -- in leading it isn't this -- EM -- people really act as legal counsel want to because you know everybody can kind of find data -- to prove what they want I mean that's that's one thing we sort of see along the way.

What the benefit of having this sort of conversation I mean what -- what do you think is positive that would come out of this other than.

You know once again sort of pitting one group of people against another.

Well what -- the value work in this country.

And then changing need to value everybody's work -- man or woman you do the same job you should get paid the same amount of money.

That's what this country was founded -- unfortunately that is not the reality out there.

Far too many women make less than their male counterparts so we talk about work and we talk about the great economic engine that is United States of America.

Every participant in the economy should be valued for who they are in the job they do not because they happen to be a woman or man -- Christians are not based on gender are used to work at H -- have the duties that are laid out the responsibilities.

And what experience issue need to bring to the table.

Governor shouldn't publish a -- and should not be setting the standards when it comes to.

The pay for men or women it should be market driven and this that is very misleading because this calendar the wrong story to the American people.

Okay we should always be fair thank -- thanks to both of you guys for coming on a debating that we appreciate it's an important point thank you -- thank you.

Free breaking news right now John Thain taking our own Charlie -- talking and about -- plans for CI AT and you know.

Charlie.

I think at this is now I -- You're coming -- because you you've been reporting all day.

You about it shot and all yesterday right about John -- out their shopping CIT and I understand another network which shall remain nameless -- Goldberg and that way is refuting your -- -- and he was.

Trying to refuted on number index and you know would it doesn't when shopping actually was a major player on Wall Street CAD is not a major player.

-- it takes some -- winning three refuted wild stories because he mattered when he was at the -- stock exchange right Merrill which he tried to refute all sorts of stuff like.

I would say they need to raise capital at Merrill right.

He would say they don't and then they would raise capital I would say that you know he's on the ropes with Ken Lewis he's not gonna replace -- -- -- BankAmerica bought Merrill Lynch.

And he got replaced as an out of -- jumping.

Knew he was gonna replace crazy because he's so -- -- -- saw -- he saw me he saw me on TV announce it now so we as a history of this.

And today I think he was pretty squirrelly.

What does it is that the player once was but I just -- just a couple things yet he first said that he misled the reporter by suggesting that we infection we call John -- up.

Several times yesterday and today.

He was there for re trying to refute our story yesterday which says he's been shopping -- interest in selling it well guess what today reported that banks can't buy it.

One of the reasons why they can't buy it is because.

Of some of the regulatory hurdles that they face US banks and he wants to sell to US banks so we can may be running US bank which -- -- Dream to be that of -- US bank even though most people on Wall Street is guts so we try to suggest.

That we didn't check that we did and he's refuting -- if you yesterday story -- today we clearly said.

He can't sell -- Listen John Thain is clearly annoyed that he's at a second rate -- And he can't sell the second rate player and emerge at a major player and the other thing is limitation.

He tried to -- downplayed the rehab of his office back in 2008.

Remember you know oil -- that is they're they're 35 dozen of -- but we're not sure you try to downplay Merrill Lynch's financial crisis.

And he had no idea who's going to be fired until I told IRA here.

And that's when Roger Dow today in the press conference at the NFL commissioner of course said.

-- this had nothing to do with Monday night eight they were so close to a deal anyway it was the right thing to do what's your take on the DL.

I think they would have played it out as long as they could have without and I just completely egregious mistake like that -- you know for the first three weeks of the season of rep -- was pretty poor yeah and then this was just the tipping point I think they have to make it.

When you look at the terms of the deal as as they've been laid out so far it seems like the rest really want any -- got a 173000.

Dollars for next year goes up to 205000.

Dollars I think it is two or three years from now.

Being dean get a lot of concessions it seemed like -- all the retirement package is still a part time jobs think they want -- Think they did.

You know they got most of what they wanted they got the NFL did get this bench of full time referees that they can go to have some efforts are underperforming yeah I think what they really succeeded in what what you saw was the status of -- reading in the NFL.

Amongst these professional -- a full -- for reasons just shot through the -- Yeah I mean that tweeting was hysterical there -- players that sad you know now these replacement rats can go back to foot locker -- line.

I actually think from reviewers point of view it's all -- disappointed because every one would have tuned into tonight's game.

To see what disaster this was and the replacement rest were under so much pressure.

-- ratings would have been better they hadn't settled that.

I think people would be tuning in right I don't tonight of the watch the first quarter was the first real referee make a mistake and and sort of show that you know everybody's human.

That yes will be met.

Are there any lingering a fax -- you know any any thing you know bad for the NFL didn't make them look Bab our -- he is -- what's a lingering a fact I think the.

Is another misstep by the NFL they miscalculated here you know they've.

The -- situation has been very murky that -- in this in the spring.

You know there -- a lot of calls for Roger get -- to step up and really step into the situation even before this happened so.

You know that.

There's that -- made a couple of steps along the way for a -- that you know as super powerful and popular.

You know it's it's a black -- most importantly who's gonna win the game tonight.

I think the fans are gonna win -- the players they're gonna win because we're gonna have real referees up there are deciding you know I'll bet it's easy out -- to -- -- -- -- coming not appreciate your time.
