Running up big metropolitan hospitals tough enough in good times but in a slow economy a lot of patients out of work.

It -- rules and regulations that are changing every -- the job it's almost impossible.

Nevertheless our next guest soldiers -- one of the nation's biggest most modern hospitals -- -- his immediate challenges.

And how could that affect all of us as patients let's ask.

Doctor Herbert artists his former president and CEO Chris Richard house -- the current executive vice chairman.

Of the board of trustees are you still got a lot of skin of -- -- -- -- -- all the time aren't they.

The new health care law let's talk about that first does that make it easier or more difficult to run -- hospital there are pluses and minuses to it.

There's some very good things that the new law does.

And it's in the right direction.

It does put some more pressure on the health -- care providers.

But I'm -- I think that's appropriate because that's -- -- improving quality getting some course that you understand the new -- I mean I remember when it was being created.

Nancy Pelosi even said double your first you'll have to pass -- -- figure out what's -- -- -- idea is is it difficult just to figure out what what all the wording means -- extraordinarily complex a lot of it we know because he paid attention to some of the major issues.

-- but there as head of pluses and minuses in those things so there.

In two ways of improving quality reducing cost one of the most important issues for example is reducing we -- missions within certain days.

There's a good intention -- that I think of a copy to accomplish things.

The way it's being carried out need some correction and the question is.

How effectively will governments come and fix those corrections to make -- -- we already know one thing that didn't turn out to -- we we -- promises that premiums were gonna go down as a result of this in fact the president said we're going to work with you to lower your premiums by 2500 dollars.

We will not wait twenty years from now do -- or ten years from now to do it we will do it by the end of my first term as president was the end of the first -- against my.

-- have gone up.

3000 dollars or are they gonna go up further.

Well I think in fairness to him and I'm not been for the politics -- -- The kinds of corrections of reforms he is asking to be.

Done.

Have not figured full effective so it's hard to judge what the definitive story will be a so I can talk to his statement to anybody else's refute.

My feeling is we are seeing some things happening.

Which could reduce cost I think there are other things we can do one of the reforms there was never put into obamacare is is tort reform I mean there's there's some kind of couple million dollar pile operas but nothing substantive -- -- put into Health Care Reform.

What would you like regarding tort reform frivolous lawsuits to be put into the health care law I'd like to have somebody like medical courts I'd like to have some limits on how much.

One can get I think that we we should have -- be done more rapidly you should not.

Compromise the ability of -- person who's been hurt by health care.

To get some kind of recompense but its way out of abounds.

You have people who -- suits and lose some have responsibility for yourself that's the British health care site I have some experts I spent a month and a British hospital -- my wife.

The only good thing about the British health care because it was a -- -- hospital converted any -- plugged into in the United States but.

But they have 110.

As many now practice -- as we do because the loser pays if you bring a frivolous lawsuit.

You have to pay the -- -- right have that system here I think so I think -- a number of corrections we could make.

Wouldn't hurt the in the person who has had the the -- of the -- the hurt if you will.

Might take a little bit look and a few dollars out of the lawyers revenues from that but it's the right way to go and if you have courts which of special courts which know what they're doing.

And and sort out the the questionable claims from the real claims that would be a big help to the other aspect -- the center.

You both get a reduction in premiums and you also get less defensive medicine which is extremely costly.

All right a lot of these things are keeping a lot of doctors out of practice some people are.

Pulling in their shingles they're they're they're leaving practice entirely a lot of people who might have been -- about.

Thought about becoming doctors are not becoming gorgeous we have a terrible shortage look at this.

A 130000.

Short.

By 2015.

That's -- couple years away but tickets those contracts -- 125000.

Short by 2025.

But but still would you think we're having thirty million more people insured now we're gonna need more doctors not -- couldn't agree more 101010.

Million people a year.

-- people of people today.

I'm going -- to Medicare or 101000 people that they are going if Medicare.

So just -- point we're going to be born doctors they're already a problem for Medicare patients finally doctors take care and we should be supporting doctor training making sure that we have as many people out there is possible now one thing I would say is that.

Surprisingly perhaps there's still are tremendous number of outstanding young people want to come at -- -- some very idealistic and I'm.

Enthused about that but we've got to have what -- -- we have to -- but very quickly if we if we overturn obamacare.

You guys are gonna have to go through the whole thing again trying to -- figure out what is the politicians want.

Well it's so it's a Fuller with -- -- to say this first of all mr.

Romney himself has said that he embraces some experts not that many preference some.

Second I think the healthiest thing to come to come out of this what ever the results of the election.

Is that these two leaders and parties really get to work together but if we get to work together and S of those of us were in the field to help.

We've cut cost and improve quote doctor Herbert party's New York Presbyterian Hospital you do herculean labor in your job thank you for doing what you do -- appreciate.
