We're just 45 days now till the election and doubt you look at some of these polling numbers.
And some of them do indicate the time is running out for for Mitt Romney this is the swing state poll we've mentioned a few times Wall Street Journal NBC it is.
Romney's trailing in Iowa trailing in Colorado trailing.
In Wisconsin and then more broadly to look at real clear politics where they average all the polls the president seeing a consistent bounce the -- -- show you since the conventions.
And it's so Trent Duffy joins us -- -- former deputy Press Secretary for -- president George W.
And then it and the journal this morning Trent they they they bring up this idea that the paths to victory.
For governor Romney are now fewer or they're more troubling what do you make about how does he win.
Well -- time is on his side he's got seven weeks left and the race in Florida is basically even caught Colorado is within striking distance of New Hampshire is within striking distance he's down in Ohio.
He's -- -- Virginia he's got to close that gap but he does have seven weeks I think what he's got to do presence got to return to the the fundamental message that got him to the nomination which is.
We like President Obama he's a nice guy but he's not a good president and four more years this policies is gonna keep us on the path to -- so he does have time.
It is kind of funny they -- especially with the debates and all.
Now turn three debates coming up this kind of a funny we look at somebody's -- to duty -- tracking polls is very very close and maybe it's the methodology of the -- some of the polls are carried out.
They were some of these web sites and I don't know how accurate.
So the -- -- think they put -- odds of victory on it right -- and you look at.
Like it in trade where people actually bet money I don't know but still 70% chance of victory as of today for President Obama and I was look at 538 dot com or at least that's what it used to be before the New York Times.
Bought -- -- at 76%.
Chance of victory for Obama as of today is what that website says there were averaging all these polls together.
That's what's -- tough border if -- if that's it indicative of what of what's really going on the country.
Well it is a tough -- I'm not suggesting that Mitt Romney is not.
In a hole on his yard they get out I'm -- -- -- has a chance -- and he's got the he's got the money he's got the message.
And look I mean you can't get around the fact that the country is in a terrible spot right now.
And that's why Mitt Romney's numbers despite you know some of the rough patches they hit.
Are still holding up.
And so it's it's not over there's seven weeks left and he's if he's within striking distance I'm not suggesting that he's there yet.
But he's got to get back story was which is that we like Barack Obama but he's just been a -- president.
He has been a disappointment as the words of Romney's been using cell whether that it will.
You know be something -- people kind of identify with or not we'll see now he has these debates right so everybody keeps comparing it to past elections and they say.
Well you don't 1980 was similar and then non dip President Reagan took got to be caught in the debate seems.
Does Romney have that in and you think does -- have a moment like -- you -- there you go again -- some sort of a moment that people will say wow all right now -- Romney.
Well I think the debates give Romney the ability to get back to what he needs to get back to which is just talking about the state of the country which is terrible.
-- -- -- three million people out of work.
Foreclosures at all time high.
You know unemployment benefits you know going -- forever the deficit the Moody's credit rating I mean you name it.
He's got more talking points and more data to deliver to Barack Obama Barack Obama and his team have been.
Some you know missteps frankly on behalf of the Romney campaign and that's to their credit.
But when you get back to the facts when you get back to the state of the country and we focus the American people on where we are.
And are we gonna give this Cache four more years given where we are that's the chance around he has and he's got a he's got to split the operates there.
He does partial beyond three debates which is now what we're looking forward to thanks for the analysis -- appreciate it.
