Hi everybody I'm Lawrence in many cases -- live on at foxnews.com live a really simple yet big question for you are you happy.

Is America happy who better to ask then sociologist at UC Berkeley joining us now doctor Christine Carter thanks for coming none wealthy you for having me and you working with Hampton hotels this week -- kind that makes sense of a study that shows we seem to have.

A perpetual case of the Mondays when it comes to the office right.

Yes well this is -- great study was done about.

How Americans are over the weekend and some interesting kids come out of it for how we can extend the happiness that we feel over the weekend and into our work week.

OK so half.

Well you know the first thing to do is to really as a manager companies prioritize happiness and sounds a little bit fluffy.

But we have a lot of -- brain science that shows that other people -- tend to be much more creative better problem solvers.

More engaged in their work and more motivated.

-- they work somewhere that really prioritize.

Is happy days or positive emotions so.

Deposit activity is associated with happiness isn't exactly seeing in the -- was his broken down geographically for instance.

In New York.

That he's he's really fastest pace is fast so I can see how that would -- you happier on the weekend right less stressed that let me -- and other cities where it's not as brutal.

In that sense for people have yeah we know across the board we tend to see that and stress levels are highest Monday morning.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- To schedule or -- out -- I'm done tasks -- unmet goals from the week in their reason that I do that is that we know psychologically.

What those I'm done tasks tend to linger in our brain whether small or big -- -- We plan when we're going -- them and once we do that little tiny bit of planning.

We're able to relax more.

And take more to break over the weekend sometimes just -- to do list stresses me out -- the actual crossing off of the item on Helen -- like finally you know makes you feel more productive and study shows that just about a third of people are really stressed out on Monday that yes pretty big number.

Yeah yeah what -- deal with that stress.

If it -- co worker Monday morning.

To always share something positive that happened over the weekend -- that we -- it.

-- experience.

Those positive emotions that came over the weekend.

And you're able to extend them a little bit at act.

Through the work week now we are stress levels are high.

One of the best things that we can use its experience a positive emotion.

Says that little bit of happiness even just talking about one good thing that happened over the weekend.

Can put the brakes on that fight or flight response which tends to happen that most of us Monday morning and we see other people getting stressed out and had his domino effect very contagious you also saying courage Russ yeah this is not a name that that most employers think about.

We we -- -- it as discontinue its productivity and what that means.

Is that we are as human beings much more.

Left -- -- much more productive when we -- sprinters rather than merit honors that -- kind of hard wired.

To work hard.

And then head rest -- reaching -- and when we follow that whole thing pattern of work work hard play hard work hard play hard are a rally or we'll go up.

Oh yeah.

And I play as now okay it's kids will be lower explaining -- deal and then.

And then rat -- and that when employers really encourage working 24/7 -- take the rest out of that equation and productivity starts to drop.

Good point -- a lot of companies out there listening.

Find yourself -- working for someone or accompanying where.

-- they want marathon.

-- you go about saying you and me and you day.

Yeah well to take your vacation time.

And spread it out a little bit so that you get a three day week more three day weekends and that you really have time to decompress to keep yourself.

That time to reaching -- -- A little bit and give yourself.

-- a day without email without work and maybe even without parents and other things that were always try to get done over the weekend as well.

About good points it's just so hard to do especially with the Blackberry and I didn't really constant connectivity yes it is it's becomes increasingly hard and that's why we need to be really disciplined but actually scheduling that rest.

-- Terry day and into our we have seen here minding your body yeah -- get a sense of how America.

-- compared to the rest of the world.

You know we don't always rank very very high bets on who -- come.

Pairing -- to write it.

One of the things that Americans are great -- is spending time with friends and family and that is something.

That is you know we've learned anything in the last hundred years of research on.

I'm happy and that is that -- -- -- really.

Help us a -- and that's all about what you call fostering friendship strain yeah I was the third tit for employers to -- you know we don't think about our company's I was.

Foster care friendships but it's a great way to boost workplace morale that those those social connections those friendships make us feel -- -- keys to her -- -- it's not only can it.

Raise morale in our company but it's also an increase productivity.

-- of this study button down all based on profession.

I know it's not that I have to -- said he is how wasn't broken down by profession that so -- they figure out that most people lives I've stressed Monday morning apparently content today they asked people to attract there's stress levels based on that day of the weekend yes in fact for most people cents peak.

How are we on Wednesday hump day that fill out name released for most people act yet in our family wacky Wednesday -- -- that -- to try and bring some of that kind of the weekend into it so well.

Half pancakes for dinner will invite friends are friends and family we trade it feel a little bit more like Saturday Stanley sounds like a lot of fun -- -- yeah.

Well we spent a lot of time talking about things that we're grateful for -- workplaces can do as well Grassley is one of those.

Great positive emotions that is.

Really closely related to you happiness is well and it's so simple to just.

Taken moments that reflect on what you appreciate about a co worker or wet and what family member is thankful for that happened during the day -- -- this has some excellent planes.

Well Christine Carter thank you so much for coming on we'll show you -- -- now reasoning happiness.

Dot com of course we can follow you on Twitter at raising happiness -- just want to ask is there another raising happiness out there know -- they limit the number of here well well okay I got added fees.
