Kirsten Powers a Daily Beast columnists and Ed Rollins a Republican strategist.

You guys are two of my favorites person I'm gonna start with you are right it's time to start to.

Nailed down those independents what do Democrats need to do tonight.

Well I think that they have to do -- a couple different things first of all they have to first Friday in the sort of subtle way -- gaps that don't wanna be too heavy handed remind people that they are better off without without spending too much time on past -- -- lay out of the vision.

For the future Michelle Obama's gonna be talking tonight and and she -- said she really wants to spend time talking about her husband's character -- and values and what kind of man the end since.

So I think I would expect her to really try to convince people -- he's the one who's not just the most competent but is somebody who really cares about the future of this country.

And add turning to you there's got to be more than hope and change this time around right this is it totally different playing field.

In this election for President Obama what do you expect him to you.

Act I didn't occur -- laid -- exactly what they're gonna trying nearly news that the -- I don't care what the First Lady says tonight we've watched him for four years he can't promise hope and change anymore we've seen this thing.

And everybody feels the country's better off great global form.

The vast majority of Americans do not feel the country's better off and he basically is now talking about an incomplete -- -- -- -- -- college professor.

You don't get incomplete they get f.s and this particular case when I -- -- that we don't to a -- we don't basically say -- done.

He's shown great potential so -- -- more years.

Historically present stand up there saying he's my record and then four more years to finish the job that have already started and completed -- -- the give -- a second half he can't do that.

And I you're saying there's a little bit of a -- factor here as well because we've been watching conventions now for nights and nights and nights.

Person turning to you -- there's also this issue of Clinton -- speaking I believe Wednesday night and Obama.

And it's going to be interesting -- -- -- to people don't really get along very well together The New Yorker riding an incendiary article.

Quoting Clinton talking to Ted Kennedy saying a few years ago this guy would have been carrying our bags what do you make of that story.

Well you know I have to say because I've always thought that that's the old wounds and -- Been around for awhile -- story comes from -- -- Hillary and allegedly this this comment that the president made.

-- was what credit.

That -- Kennedy and and he -- its racist and so therefore what Obama I don't think it was -- thinking he was the point he was making was that Obama wasn't.

Qualified he was not legal experience that is the kind of guy who would've been working for -- not running for president so.

I think that's an heir apparent if they don't like each other very much I don't think it really matters though I don't think it won't be watching -- know that in the president.

The bank estimates that.

With the differences Clinton Clinton had two terms Clinton became a centrist.

Liberal Democrats -- had not won a second term are in hadn't done very well even running as the first term but since FDR.

Clinton -- the party continues to the -- and basically worked with Republicans had a balanced budget had some great -- -- at the end and Obama has -- the party back to the left.

This is going to be great California convention they're gonna have all the California stars there.

Including the mayor of LA and if you want -- run make America California this into the convention for you.

I would a turned of this so called war on women with you -- and -- -- read T wed Debbie Wasserman Schultz -- -- the Democratic National Committee had to say over the weekend.

She -- I think we believe that women can see through that nice shiny packaging that the Republicans have been putting out there.

Though to what's inside which is really a disaster for women's future extreme policies.

To called.

Some of them women have governors.

Who spoke.

At the Republican Convention is nice shiny packaging is really an insult isn't it.

It's.

It's very much and salt in -- first -- man and I think I've.

You know minority candidates is being quite -- Need to -- saying I think it's very insulting and I frankly not really sure who she appeals to class because I just I don't think you should -- The center of the accomplishments of people like Marco Rubio or Nikki -- people who I think have really inspiring stories.

So I'm -- I don't think she helps anybody that's kind of comments love.

It -- accounting of that too is she herself is is an IBC member of congress.

But she herself was put in that job not because she's a great operative that because -- -- -- spokesperson.

The internal polls that the that the Obama campaign has done she's the worst spokesperson -- have anywhere.

You know basically you -- give him.

For floor you picked -- because she's Jewish you -- to because she's a woman.

That's all tokenism and and it's -- -- she's an accomplished woman are women who have they were extremely accomplished people in this kind of rhetoric is just yes.

Yeah couldn't agree more you know we get a lot of Democrats who are skipping this convention have would get about a whole list of -- we want to show you.

Person as a surprise -- people trying to distance themselves from the present at this point.

Yeah.

Like anything out of the ordinary and then.

People who are in the typical races -- very.

They're still in the party and -- We lost most of them and moderate Democrats they just.

Would not benefit anyway.

I don't I didn't feel -- hi -- -- usually on them.

People.

But it just -- to the point you're making a minute ago at which is that the party has drifted left.

And we're -- you -- Clinton trying to work with business now Obama attacking private equity.

-- -- time and private equities with them for jobs back on the plate.

They want to throw -- statistics out saying how great things are.

They want to run against George HW George what W bush Yahoo! basically is on his ranch living happily ever after.

You know at the end of the day here he's gonna run against a guy who has been successful business -- And unfortunately for them they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to portray him something that he's not after that convention last week it's going to be very very difficult.

This race is close but Romney is moving forward in the place yesterday.

So quickly to both -- -- this could be the most important speech -- you first.

I think Bill Clinton's speech is probably the most important thing I really ha he -- who cannot overstate the influence that he had.

Country and -- Democratic Party and among independent voters I think.

Maybe he had enough to sort of -- them.

Obama -- Obama has to sell himself I don't disagree Clinton's going to be the most Clinton's up against the first opening game and NFL -- -- up up up up up up.

Himself that the president can't convince his own voters to go out and vote and he's not been successful -- Well we're going to be watching you know all along the way -- but let me come back and talk this person that Ed thank you so much for your time tonight.
