Trying to -- -- at the DNC kicking up today where President Obama will get the chance to tell the American people how he plans to fix the economy.
Would nine weeks until the election some critics are saying Mitt Romney's economic plan failed to deliver specifics.
Last week the Republican Convention joining me now is former secretary of commerce and Romney advisor Carlos with yet it's good to see again Carlos thanks for coming in appreciate -- pleasure thank you -- -- -- -- we're not just talking about the -- course you'd expect the Democrats to criticize Republicans but the wall street journal editorial page was out on Saturday and here's what they said.
Our -- specifics in the Republican campaign is that neither Romney.
Nor the entire GOP convention made a case for his economic policy agenda.
He and Paul Ryan promised to help the middle class but they never explained other than in passing how they would do it.
You agree.
I I think doubt that that criticism is unfounded.
That that the governor presented a five point plan at the convention.
This is a five point plan that he -- execute relay endlessly.
Number one energy independence we couldn't beat the Saudi Arabia of natural gas in a decade.
But we're just not pursuing -- -- -- pursuing a solar and wind which gets you you know about this much of what we need to do stop punishing coal.
Everything that we've got we've we just discovered we have massive amounts of natural gas.
But since it's a fossil fuel the president doesn't want to pursue it.
Number -- skills to succeed.
We need to give parents more school choice we need to give every family the chance offer for.
Best the best teachers possible in the best schools possible we also need to attract people from around the world we've got companies today.
Building there aren't -- -- -- overseas because they can't bring in the engineers.
Or -- Ph.D.s from other countries trade that works for America.
We haven't had one new free trade agreement during this administration.
We're losing ground -- about a hundred agreements being negotiated.
We're negotiating -- okay the president was gonna go.
All -- all five of these vote but were were running out I just wanna join us on I just wanna focus on one though that the Wall Street Journal specialized was light on specs.
And that's a tax overhaul we I think both Democrats or Republicans both agreed that we -- attacks overall.
But the Republicans up until -- seemed to have had a relatively clear proposal of lowering tax rates.
And getting rid of some of the deductions particularly for the wealthy.
But there wasn't a mention of that there wasn't a mention of specifics of that.
It by the Republicans last week.
Even OK but but there was I sort of say there's a five point plan it's a very good plan a solid plan -- -- jobs.
Com on taxes let me just say -- because this is important I'm -- US.
Everybody is hearing that that's somehow.
Were going to.
Our raise taxes on the middle class and reduced -- got a taxes on the wealthy.
That is false that was some kind of an early study by the -- that the -- added tax policy senator.
They backtrack the issued a clarification.
But that doesn't matter the Democrats continue to use that.
Our governor Romney will reform taxes he will not raise taxes -- house -- the senate.
Please give us for example I -- the tax code I have got to get.
Were worried -- we're going to be a current average you know this Carlos very well -- as a former head of a huge.
Multi national -- you have to be specific with a customers you have to tell them what the ingredients are.
-- you could've soldier right your Kellogg's that morning cereals have -- it didn't have the ingredients we don't know the -- bringing -- the plant -- we know the ingredients before the election.
Well I think he should know the direction.
As a former CEO I will tell you that you set the direction first you said a strategy.
And then -- spent hours and hours and hours on the details the governors talked about -- the tax reform where were closing loopholes.
Mom no increase on the middle class.
And importantly.
Today the 1% of the population that everyone likes to talk about they pay about 39 point 7%.
Of taxes that will not move.
So this idea that we're going to lower -- we're gonna raise taxes on the middle class and lower on the wealthy is false the American people are being.
Given advertising that is false aren't what they want and I had more sort of let's throw this out there Carlos not -- I had more specifics.
About precisely how you would lower the tax rates on every level.
-- you'd give the opposition less of a chance -- went bad and only zero.
But but specifically what they should know is that this idea that we're gonna raise -- attacks in the middle class and reduce taxes on the wealthy.
Is false and America should know that Carlos -- here is great to see as always Carlos please go back it's it's again --
