What was expected.
The Republican National Convention because of the full swing today -- Varney and company we've been having an ongoing debate about Romney's strategy watch -- -- -- Should -- push Romney the man with -- is very strong family and strong family values or should he go directly after President Obama on the economy the issues.
Peggy Noonan from Wall Street Journal joins us now from Tampa.
What should it be packing goes well protected projecting Romney the man the family all the issues what he said.
Well I think governor Romney has a number of things he has to -- on -- speech.
One is as use say.
Him self in a new way in a sort of unveiling.
As a human being who has lived a certain number of years of the world and who has a certain history.
So of course that history and who he is as a person.
Is very pertinent right now Americans like to know who their presidents are -- like to get a firmer sense of them so they will expect him.
His best story of who he is.
At the same time of course people will expect him to be serious about policy in this way.
You've heard who I am I'm gonna tell you what it is I think we have to do as a nation.
How I think I can do it why I think you should follow me in this great endeavor so.
All of these things can easily.
-- not easily but all of these things can be done in a speech that'll probably go about 45 minutes.
And and the backdrop to that speech is going to be to debt clocks.
Number along the debt -- assess how much debt we've run -- so far that's going to be close on sixteen trillion.
On the other debt while the -- we're showing our view is now is how much debt we have run up since the beginning of the convention.
-- was the Republicans are making a very big deal about debt and the national debt does that resonate with voters -- -- you know what look.
The debt and the deficit are huge problems in America and every American knows that every American knows we are hemorrhaging money and it makes them feel anxious about the future.
Because they know the books aren't right and so that's not promising for the future of the same time they -- know.
Someday they -- themselves won't be here -- their kids are gonna have to take on the heavy burden in this heavy loads so everybody's concerned about it.
That having been said Stuart.
Debt and deficit fit into what a larger.
Picture the picture is about.
How to bring the American economy back how to bring growth back.
Getting -- debt and deficit right is part of getting America stable.
And allowing it to make jobs and expand and be the old American the old expanse -- one we all remember so do I think.
The DS gold always have hope.
Yeah that's never been kissed fall pulls back.
It's not -- don't get up there and start going like this know everybody knows the problems from fine talk about it.
But faded into your plan which is to turn this playing around.
You know picking you forgive me for saying at least you -- the reaganesque.
I know you look very closely with the great -- Reagan but that's exactly what he did.
I mean he came into office.
-- -- the economy was in terrible shape that he never scolded people.
He simply said -- -- it's morning in America best days are ahead of us.
Think positive that's what he did your saying the governor Romney has to do -- -- the same thing if he wants to take on the Reagan -- Well I would say it -- it's something he ought to consider when I feel great compassion for governor Romney right now because.
Everybody on every television show was telling him what he ought to do and how he ought to do it.
At this point my real advice to him would be turn off the T today.
Don't be watching at the hotel room you don't have to be doing that all of this people.
They have a speech I am sure it is good.
Leave it alone go out to launch comeback piccolo relax cut back.
I'll -- he takes that advice to the last word on and Romney.
Would you have advice.
What I had advice and more advice if let me tell you what I think she will do.
She has been married to Mitt Romney for I think 42 years she knows him better.
Than any other humans being on the planet she loves him and she supports his quest for the presidency at a time of crisis.
-- she must admire him a lot.
Maybe she will come out and tell us stories about why -- not only admires him but he is thoroughly admirable and you should admire him.
Excellent stuff Peggy -- what a pleasure it is to have you with -- so frequently on -- -- -- stuff thank you think it -- you soon.
