Is in Washington -- all the details Peter Barnes that -- thank.

That's right the new Washington Post ABC news poll finds that the economy surprise surprise continues to be the dominant factor in the presidential race even as the media focus on lots of other issues such as abortion.

Tax returns that VP pick for governor Romney and other issues that register much lower with the voters the poll also finds the race.

In a dead heat with the governor Romney at 47%.

And the president at 46% little changed.

From early July and within the statistical.

Range of up plus or minus 4% 50% of people approve of the way the president is handling his job up from 477%.

In July -- But here is where the Romney camp thinks that he has an opening only 44%.

Of people approve of the way that the president is handling the economy 54%.

Disapprove.

Among registered voters 72%.

Said the president's handling of the economy will be a major factor in their vote.

Just 20% of registered voters said that Romney's position on releasing his tax returns will be a major factor in their vote.

But 48% said that Paul Ryan's proposal to restructure Medicare will be a major factor and by the way that was the same percentage.

That said differences between Democrats and Republicans on women's issues will be a major factor -- and the call.

Would you expect Peter Ronnie Bryant you've had more of -- pre convention bump.

Then they seem to have now vs previous RNC's how does that work what's the history on that not to kind of -- my.

You don't normally the -- comes after the convention because that -- because the I candidate gets a lot of airtime and gets to go out and make his case or make his case that -- He remains to be the case did the American voters but as you know good governor is gonna have a little less time now.

Than some of his previous Republican candidate.

And we're looking guy at the debt clock that there the national debt clock Neil Cavuto is showing us on the inside and we talked about one other issue and including the economy.

But another very big issue for Romney is like ability and we've seen that in the polls Peter.

Black out well on the debt actually.

Romney scores better than the president and once again on what who would be -- veteran.

Fixing the deficit but the like ability I have all the -- -- at -- numbers on like ability.

And there is a like ability gap a big like ability gap in this latest Washington Post ABC.

News -- The president -- and it dominates.

That governor Romney by 34 percentage points on who's more likable 61%.

Of the people surveyed said that they find the president more likeable compared to 27%.

-- governor rod so -- he wants to use this convention to -- And talk -- a little bit more about himself.

To and his personal life and they know his family to try to make himself more likable do voters to some people vote.

-- for the candidate -- like.

-- are likeable more approachable but we keep talking about this debt clock Peter and I know it's important it's a huge issue the overwhelming debt crisis is countries -- but.

For most Americans don't necessarily care about it -- you know what's your view on that strategy.

Well again Romney's gets some more points.

Then the president.

Better ratings on and on which man would be better suited to try to fix the debt but if you drill down into this latest poll for example.

You know by total one they oppose.

For -- governor currencies -- congressman Ryan's Medicare plan the Republican Medicare plan which would.

It's something that Republicans want to change to try to fix the national debt.

Fix at all just fix -- all whoever -- -- is that are right.

Thank you Peter I didn't go.
