Counting until the Republican Convention began but will events outside the convention centers steal the show joining us now Ford O'Connell chairman of the civic forum pack.

And former McCain campaign advisor welcome -- the show or I should say welcome back -- it's always good to see you.

Well thank you grabbing me -- Gerri I have my idea Republican tie with the -- root -- -- -- -- inaugurated I don't starry.

I want talk she's -- about at the platform.

His everybody's talking about all the stuff that's -- it going back to the gold standard abortion attempting mistake.

Should only be focusing on the economy jobs what's going on with the middle class in this country which is a tragedy.

-- -- -- most important issues are all economic.

Whether the party platform -- -- political equivalent of elevator music -- most Republicans don't even know what's in and I'm sure that when the democratic platform comes out there's going to be a lot of Democrats for queasy about what their platform says.

The key here is for Mitt Romney took.

Really one on his own brand and to tell people who he is and what he stands -- to convey that the Republican Party is not just reported old white man.

The one more Hispanics and women played key roles and most importantly what Mitt Romney has to do -- talk about the future people out.

-- -- -- -- you have got to tell what the next billion for just a second as you're saying -- platform is meaningless and yet they're spending at a time.

Writing this thing.

So you know everybody's looking at the details on -- everybody's talking about it's been all over the place something you say it doesn't matter if you're gonna put together platform it should have meaning -- it should be something that the Republicans -- product.

It's a document and incorporates views from all wings of the party but really the focus is on Mitt Romney I understand what you're saying there are a couple of things in the platform they're very good that I'm hopeful for.

And that is the guest worker program which.

Really you know our immigration system is broken and we really need to look at you know securing the border using a free market approach there's some good things in -- but it's something that is inclusive.

Of all different -- the Republican Party but.

Mitt Romney has not running for the entire Republican parties running on his own -- -- OK I disagree -- the president so he no one of the things that really interesting and it -- today it is there's going to be 151000.

Journalists there.

They don't like to take a story that's handed to them.

So the story line is that -- a good guy in the these warm which will be kind of being told that's gonna be the story line they're probably gonna look for something else -- all -- -- And they're gonna find Sarah Palin out there they're gonna find the vice president of the United States running around somewhere in Florida.

Do you think this thing could spin out of control.

Look -- it that bad things always happen in the media and you -- nature is to drive the story in the find everything to get an edge to scoop but really.

You know Mitt Romney and his team only have to control the environment if they do that and they really -- the ball out of the park they're likely to get a five point -- are actually -- -- Well -- one more question here.

Big news this afternoon.

-- Ake head is saying -- states staying in the senate race in Missouri.

And this is very controversy all because he had some strange comments about.

-- saying there's legitimate rape and that a woman's body naturally.

Ed.

Shuts down in this situation.

He says is gonna stay in the race what do you make it.

I don't think -- should stay in the race and it's not because of his pro life views given that 50% of Americans identify them as cells -- -- what he did here -- he made an indefensible statement on an emotionally charged issue and really -- -- should put the party above its political aspirations and stepped down that said though.

I don't think that the -- situations gonna hurt the Republican Party but it certainly hurts our chances the possibly wanna -- Missouri and control the senate.

Interesting step port thanks for coming on it's always great to see you I hope you'll be with -- sometime next week to.

We had a harder I think for you -- I have cut our --
