Lot bigger issues at hand joining us now us congressman Michael -- of New York congressman it's wonderful to have you -- CDO this afternoon and -- if your first convention this will be what you're expecting the on the pomp and circumstance.
Well.
I think it's going to be extremely exciting first -- -- for me the indication is going to be -- going in the indication that's huge government huge -- I think he's great representative of New York in of of the world really.
And then obviously know Paul Ryan just coming on board as a vice presidential pick I think is gonna bring a tremendous amount.
Excitement to the -- -- to the room the or.
We've been speaking about a lot on Capitol Hill and throughout the district so I think that's what people -- to -- looking for some some very very good.
Speeches but also some real substance which I think is gonna be different than what we've seen the past.
Engineer on the house financial services committee we have this fiscal -- that's getting closer and closer I mean what what can you say about this some what will be -- at the convention.
Well I think one thing that has to come out of this it convention.
He's just how serious this is unfortunately.
With the political rhetoric that's been going on for decades people don't believe.
When thinking it was and is one party trying to get an advantage over another is there really official -- -- -- more political nonsense -- unfortunately this time it's true.
This is -- -- was a heart attack and if we don't get our act together and start coming together as a congress.
And really.
Getting solutions passed into law is the compromise there though because the right -- -- right now or Elton is.
Ugly no right now it's not -- mean there's no question that we are completely polarized but you know in all sincerity I don't wanna bash the president that's that's not what I'm saying.
But he hasn't shown the leadership to bring us together and he's actually done the opposite he's divided so when you have the president of the United States who's leading.
Dividing everyone it's very hard to get the congress together.
You know it's hard what must be hard it is energizing.
The Republican Party around the country at the convention but then also speaking the specifics and -- What needs to be done in terms of spending.
Cut since it you'd avoid the fiscal -- so so how -- you balance that -- how what is the party need to due to be successful.
The party has to do what they need to do is is do exactly what Paul Ryan does he breaks things down in very.
Common sense easy language that you can understand and he's sincere he's honest.
He he's he's not trying to you were already closely with I have worked very closely with him I've gotten to -- -- -- and I can tell -- this.
Whether you're Democrat or Republican or an independent.
If you get to know Paul Ryan the more you get to know on the more you gonna like him because he's just an honest sincere person should really.
That's some new some planning.
Combined plan from Romney -- because some criticism shortly after Brian what does that announces that he -- by -- need that.
Here was this Ryan plan unveiled last spring but we weren't really -- -- was on board.
You know what I think what I think the first step is is educating the public and in a perfect example would -- -- manicure only hears about all this talk about Medicare and -- -- -- -- say don't do anything leave it won't.
Here's the problem every member of congress has been notified by the trustees'.
That in as little as five years in need nine to ten years that they don't know exactly -- between five and ten years Medicare is going bankrupt insolvent if we won't have it any -- So if we do nothing.
That we are hurting our seniors we must do something for future generations so that's one of the message that has get out there that we wanna protect what we have for seniors make sure they have everything that erode.
And every everything that they've -- really -- -- they've been promised but for future generations this is not a sustainable formula.
For Mitt Romney the presumptive nominee.
What does he have to do -- that big speech at the convention that launches the momentum toward the election because there's the criticism he's just not able to relate to some of the vote is out there what do you hope he can deliver.
Well one I think he has -- -- personal experiences he really has to hone in on.
Being proud of his father success being proud of the opportunities in his own success.
And he is successful.
There's nothing wrong with that I you -- I was raised my parents -- need to be successful my dad worked relentlessly three jobs.
So -- -- have an education that he didn't have so that I wouldn't have to break my back swinging a hammer.
And that I can go to school when used my mind.
There's didn't the American dream is alive still and every one -- if he can just happened to that can bring that out.
And show how proud he is of his father success his own success because this country given that opportunity.
Opportunity noticed what I -- -- -- -- gave them the opportunity but it was his hard work his dedication his own ability to be innovative.
That's what makes or breaks its.
You know isn't brilliant -- -- the theme of the convention is we -- that.
Right and I think that's I think that's wonderful yeah I think that's Eric and I'm very glad congress -- under the umbrella are going to New York -- You think district is Brooklyn in parts that are Thad -- -- Brooklyn but thank you so much like Thanksgiving -- -- and enjoy the next week yeah.
