May alone.

That's what voters in the latest Fox News -- are saying when asked what message they would send to the federal government right now.

Let me bring in Monica Crowley Fox News contributor and author of what the believe just happen.

Looking lovely and -- -- to -- -- this morning he's taken this would sane to flight ride ends.

Governor Romney and Paul Ryan's ticket but it -- look at the big Paul.

That -- -- -- -- essential as statistical high with President Obama yeah and you're pointing to very interesting disconnect because it's not just the Fox News poll that shows that most Americans want government to leave them alone to get out of my way.

Tax me -- reduce the size of government.

Actually Gallup has been polling on this question for about thirty years.

And I just wrote about this in my -- -- it's fresh in my mind that literally over the last three years.

Gallup numbers on that question have been the highest they've ever -- they're showing upwards of sixty to 70% of the American people say.

Government is doing too much that should be left to business.

And -- to individuals IL and it did I have no basis for this but it's feels like when you ask people do you want the government out your life they say yes then when an -- actually taking away something that they get from the federal government -- Or even reducing -- and I'm talking about you have.

Almost half of all Americans get some sort of federal assistance not welfare but food stamps but let's -- security and Medicare and even disability.

So when you actually dig down and say okay we're gonna cut back on all of these handouts even tax deduction it.

You start talking about taking people's mortgage interest deduction away and they -- but Nanette -- -- things that affect them directly and therein lies the -- because when you say should the government be smaller.

And be less intrusive in your life you get the American pioneering spirit saying yes leave us -- But we start talking about the goodies that the government has given away in and by the -- -- -- have been Democrats over the many decades that have started these redistribution -- programs.

Like Medicare like Medicaid like Social Security all the things now that so many Americans it's not every American relies on at some point in their life.

When you start talking about the goodies and -- what we're gonna have to reform this program in order to save it.

People start to freak out a little bit what I President Bush did you -- have -- -- -- -- the drug program to Medicare so there would there's been.

Growing expansion of government's -- from both sides you know I mean mostly it's -- the Democrats are for many decades that have pushed these redistribution -- programs but enough to Republicans have gone along this path of big government big spending.

To now we're -- the point where beware about you know day or two away from to hitting sixteen trillion dollars in terms of the national -- we have a debt that's close to sixteen trillion dollars what you have.

Long term interest rates that are still in her historic lows.

Skyrocketing interest rates to wake the American public up to the dangers of a national in almost always takes a crisis whether it's military crisis -- -- Pearl Harbor 9/11 or financial crisis economic crisis of the kind you're talking about.

To really wake people up and mobilize at some point the laws of economics are going to kick in here we're seeing it happen across the board of Western Europe UK keep going with the socialists expect.

That we couple of the warning signs in front of us.

What do you think governor Romney and Paul Ryan -- really need to do is to make the case to the American people that this is the most pre crisis we see it coming down the pipe because some -- But imagine the pain coming down the -- if we don't do it now well said we'll see if.
