Fewer Americans consider themselves to be religious according to a new poll 60% identified themselves as a religious person down from seven -- 3% in 05.

-- the exact question that was -- irrespective of whether you attend the place of worship -- -- would you say you on a religious person.

Not a religious -- all eight convinced atheist.

Joining us now is Father Jonathan Morris that study would suggest that we are less of a religious nation.

All week.

You know that.

A lot of these -- make the outcomes very confusing because of the question themselves -- there are many people who are extremely spiritual.

Who actually attend religious services and say.

In what calling yourself religious is actually a bad term because then you're following the law instead of following god.

This this last week sixteen million Americans attended church services that's more than people who have stood in college football stadiums.

Throughout the whole year last year.

I think there are a lot of people the United States -- to have a strong belief in god are there more people coming -- and saying I am an -- studies say yes.

I think that is a the result of people saying it's okay to express doubt I -- doubted myself it's okay to expressed I think -- this thing here you you think the atheists are coming along real strong.

And absolutely and I think then went into higher and higher places I -- -- I think they have a tremendous input and in Hollywood I think part of them put isn't involved in environmentalists movement.

And I and I think President Obama sympathetic to them.

I think what -- it's easy to know everything when you know nothing essentially that's -- -- that's the way to look at atheists say they think they know everything -- they know nothing I mean it.

We still kept in a very limited five cents as we think we know the ultimate reality when we don't that always bothered me about.

And we can't summarize it like this -- the basis the coming along real strong a making a big public showing.

But America is still fundamentally a religious country and not getting less well even if the statistics you gave 60% consider themselves -- religious that suggests the Americans still very religious country.

But even more than those who -- attending church services -- calling themselves religious or those who say.

I believe in god in it's over 90% in this -- country -- to -- charles' point that there are.

Very strong there's a very strong atheist movement out there those are activists.

Those -- -- once we're putting up I'm all sorts of signs and highways saying leave this big Christian up.

Let's open our Catholic -- and I've been raised Catholic there -- right thinking.

Honest Catholics that say we're disenchanted we don't like the way to church is being run these days and they and those people you have to worry about right father -- Fair enough and I would say that as well on the disenchanted Catholic in the sense that I don't.

Although I believe deeply my own faith that everything that goes on in terms of management of the church.

Is somehow pleasing to me no but that's because that the church -- the Catholic church of these other institution institutional churches.

They're run by human beings and that's always going to be a factor that's a great point.

Got thirty seconds there's a Catholic -- appearing on another news channel -- says Paul Ryan is a bad guy and a bad Christian.

Because he doesn't take care of the poll.

You say -- she said that he was a bad guy but certainly he said he cannot see that he's a good Catholic violent teachings of the Catholic Church why.

Because he doesn't respect the preferential option for the -- Paul Ryan.

And has is not only a good man from what I know personally but also I believe he has taken seriously.

Laying out a budget in relationship to moral principles you might disagree with.

Though -- don't not how you apply those principles but.

Bob Ryan -- Paul Ryan has had very clearly he is and all in favor of creating the good safety net of strong safety net for the -- in this country and very few other politicians have been willing to say.

These are my principles and I'm willing to actually apply these principles to creating a budget.

He's saying the best way to get people out of poverty is to make sure they're not -- didn't.

Fully on government and does it's it's a different difference of opinion certainly.

I I think it's terrible to say it's a bad capital back Christian every time he's on the show I think -- we -- -- ten minutes that is definitely is still AdSense.

Paula Jones and we -- out of time but thanks so much becoming a bigger and I trust I -- so --
