Men -- women.
Who's better at investing.
Report in USA today saying that while women are gaining more financial responsibilities.
They're not necessarily gaining in knowledge about investing.
With more on this Carol rock bestselling author and business expert Carol welcome back to the show it's always great to have you here.
This thing got me started this morning -- K I look at my USA today I love the newspaper right.
But they -- story that says this that women's financial responsibility is growing faster than their knowledge.
And it goes -- to talk about how women are inexperienced and they're very insecure and yadda yadda yadda yadda.
Which you make of that.
Well first -- very shocked that you -- incensed about this Jerry.
But this is sort of women's dirty little secret that women don't have the same knowledge base.
And the same amount of confidence when it comes to investing and I have talked to women all over the country and it doesn't matter of their high powered executives that they're running the budgets.
For their family or even running their own business.
They don't feel as confident about investing as -- -- and if you think about it the last time you had a ladies night out.
Didn't foreign exchange and options ever come up in the conversation -- come on Caroline doesn't come up one.
Men go out either -- look at -- today.
There's confidence and then there's performance right.
And I think men have the confidence but that doesn't mean they have the performance if -- -- good investing.
Why is the median balance in I areas across the country -- -- under 181000 dollars.
I mean it's -- you're if men you're better at investing why the mortgage meltdown result and it ended compression practically in this country.
Better -- that seeing -- yeah not guidance.
Right that -- is not a question and that that having the confidence and the knowledge that's necessarily translate into better performance and I think that you nailed the distinction there the funny thing is the fact that women are more cautious the fact that they want more information.
Actually make them better investors W sit there all the information women are more focus on capital preservation.
Where men are more focused on capital appreciation and we know that women -- -- have -- -- -- -- -- saying that men want short term gains and are willing to do anything for right am I mean I think you I think you're on the money here.
Basically -- agreeing with me I think.
In saying that you know men.
-- -- -- -- Typically that's -- investing style and at the end of the day it usually results in lower returns then what women would get in a similar survey.
You're you're hot -- 100% right and if you look at the numbers the women always come out on top obviously depends on what's going on in the market the sometimes it's a couple percentage points higher having that cautious.
Just demeanor and not turning those investments over and over again it's actually a better strategy so we have to get the women.
Over the hump to make the first investment but once you do ladies you actually have a better -- are not -- down to them its I don't you know look I think women are Smart and I think the last.
You wanna do -- say you know this is too hard for you although I will say this and tell me what you think about this -- you talk to a lot of women out there.
There -- difference -- a cop across the generations.
I mean what we're seeing younger women are more likely to be in charge of the money run the money.
It's when you get into the older generations -- start to find at these are the women who are still a little anxious about this.
-- they are but I will tell -- -- that there still are a lot of young women who don't feel like they have the full knowledge base and so I say take control.
Of that knowledge yourself between the Internet between programs like yours -- it's very easy to get more comfortable with the information and once you get comfortable and it becomes.
The something -- you you know little bit more about -- you can make those first steps and then once you make those first steps you're on your way.
-- -- thanks for coming on tonight it's always great to see you appreciate your time thank you.
-- still have a great weekend Jerry you as well here's -- question to.
