Talks with cable companies now about selling at a -- to replace set top boxes like your TV's at home this is as companies continue.
It's heated courtroom patent battle with -- Instead -- goes I'm all -- now the focal old things apple in the future.
Knowledge is John -- private investor and forma Apple's CEO it's so great to have you here is John.
Let's start with the news of today apple gaining -- of the cable TV business as this make sense.
Well makes total sense to me a Bill Gates started talking about.
The importance of delivery room twenty years ago -- -- ironically Apple's gonna be a one I think it's gonna be the beneficiary of that not Microsoft.
There is -- make so much sense is that the iPad.
Which changed the world in mobility loud.
Has an opportunity could be even more important than what happens in delivery room and that's because.
Y five is becoming the default that work in the home.
And that these things that you can do over -- five with the -- are way beyond what you can do with an iPad on three year -- so.
This makes sense but do you truly believe that just like they've revolutionized the phone industry in the music industry do you believe are living rooms will function and look differently now and it will be -- apple -- think they're gonna do that the TV industry.
Well I think many people thought when apple talked about apple TV that.
Apple necessarily had to come out and have a television just liked.
-- -- -- -- -- but you don't need to do that because.
The cable and -- those multiple service operators have already said TV anywhere you know on your phone on -- IPad on your television screen -- -- what apple can do is to.
Bringing the ecosystem that they already have on three devices the phone that.
Macintosh and the iPad bring it into the fourth device which is a TV which everybody already house.
It's really out they are bringing.
That ecosystem and apple I think more than you know apple being brought into the ecosystem of the cable and ourselves we'll see what happens with these negotiations -- they are in fact going on but.
It's a huge shell game changer I think for everybody -- does occur.
John you know this apple has been historically pretty tight with its money's so when we look acquisitions -- possible acquisitions one being kicked around Netflix which actually could provide of the contents -- apple TV with that makes sense something like that.
Well I have no inside knowledge as to what -- maybe up to but.
They clearly have the resources.
They clearly have the ecosystem -- knows how to make money they could probably make more money with Netflix Netflix can -- itself now whether.
Apple buys a big company that never really not a major acquisition like -- -- you know that's anybody's -- but.
If apple did.
I think it could make a lot of sense of the could probably be much more profitable that the Netflix can -- itself.
And don't have -- these patents obviously apple -- on a very heated battle with Samsung over these patents.
If there were to be -- a negative outcome from this do you think that this could truly -- apple.
Well I really don't know a lot about the patent case committees are very detailed cases they go -- for a long time.
It's really about -- very small tactical differences that determine outcomes.
But I will say that's my experience was over twenty years ago when there was another celebrated case between apple and Microsoft.
And at that time it was over the look and feel of the Macintosh and apple was sane.
It's not about patents it's about copyright.
And apple said there -- a lot of -- out there but there's only one Mickey Mouse.
Therefore that if you can copyright the look and feel.
Inaudible long to apple well apple lost that case an apple did just fine and went on in this -- successful company so these outcomes don't necessarily.
A fork in the road for either company is just one of the things that goes on an industry that still evolving.
We talked about apple TV jumble what's the next big thing in technology do you think what do you think is the most exciting thing on the horizon.
Everything's going mobile.
If you look at the big companies that have changed so much attention whether it's FaceBook or -- Twitter or.
These companies have yet to really show that that you transform.
Their success in the online web world over to this new world of mobility immobility is the future everything's going mobile.
-- -- -- I've never met him I -- a great admirer of what he's doing I think he's been an outstanding CEO from what I can -- from a distance.
He really understands supply chain.
You really has put together I think a great team officer Steve played a big role -- that.
The Fed observer do you have any advice for him.
I'd say just keep doing what you're doing and I think he's doing -- terrific job.
All right website life off -- apple urine so venture capitalism mountain bump particular area I was looking in you know sixty focus on companies that deal.
With health -- kind of changing gears a little bit -- but what do you do what advice do you have the people -- -- looking to invest in this particular area.
Well the way I look at it is that all of the innovation in health care has gone into the technology of better medicine -- and yet the real cost of the health care system that's not sustainable is in the delivery of health care services.
As we move to a world with catastrophic health insurance becoming more the norm.
High deductibles consumers have to pay for maybe the first three to 5000 dollars every year if there's an opportunity for consumer centric solutions to health care delivery.
And so my investments so all around.
The transformation of health care delivery what alternative services like tell health.
Social media for front ends for insurance companies to deal with their patients all of these things can dramatically change I believe health care as we know -- today.
SE since you cut it changed -- -- -- change here is again on the day when FaceBook had an all time low since its debut I would be remiss if I didn't ask you about that what do you think about what you've seen so far.
Well I am not -- you.
Public companies now -- -- -- but I'm a little too old to be an expert on social media.
To the extent that -- these great innovators like Mark Zuckerberg and others are mean.
But -- or what what I can observe is that I think FaceBook has been valued.
Around this roughly billion people who use it right about it but of the world is about mobility in the future and the real question is how do you transfer.
That user from the web.
What Italy -- yet on US small screen that they're carrying around all the time today and can you take.
You know it's a -- with photos and can take location based services they can you monetize something with mobile and they have yet to proves clearly not -- that's a very tough dilemma that mark -- it is it's a challenge it.
I don't think you so much and thanks for -- -- great stuff.
