-- said it before we will say it again.

Ugly politics on the campaign trial here all the latest developments vice president Joseph Biden says Republicans want to quote.

Put you all back in -- he was speaking to a heavily African American audience about back.

Regulations.

Mitt Romney called that -- the latest attack from an angry and desperate campaign he pointed out that in 2008.

Present -- -- objected to exactly -- these kind of tactics.

Joining us now the Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy -- And then making a first appearance on -- and company thank you great to have you with it's wonderful to be here -- I watch your show -- thank you for this invitation please come back if there.

Look I never fool us three and a half years ago.

When Barack Obama -- went to the White House -- on about his presence.

I never thought that would end up with this campaign reaching these -- and that's what I call low -- How much you.

You mean the low tone it as illustrated by things like hands from political action committees that suggests that a Republican candidate is perhaps complicit in the killing or.

Or death of a woman.

You know.

It is in -- way it's surprising.

It certainly doesn't feel like the 2008.

Campaign in a way it's not couldn't mr.

Obama at the incumbent and administration.

They can't talk a lot about their victories what are they gonna talk about they're gonna talk about that other guy can't.

Be made to replace -- yeah -- -- can't go down present to -- is.

Is -- the kind of guy who puts out -- kind of accusation really.

IAE think.

That people in power desperate to keep it do interesting things you know I think it it.

Sort of comes down to that I actually don't think however that the low minister meanness of the campaign.

Is its most striking quality when I do think is striking when I think history will look back that.

Is its American 2012 we've been in a severe economic.

Crisis for four years we -- in various crises in the world nothing feel stable the American people are anxious.

And yet the president and the White House are not talking about those central issues they're talking instead about.

A certain emotionalism of certain us vs them because you know a certain -- those Republicans they're the bad folks taxes etc.

I I mean personal tax.

Along with everybody else I read your column.

Most people in America regional column you have enormous influence.

A what I'm reading your column is you -- defining this presidency as it moves along you have consistently defined it in yourself this is how we you've -- it.

Or roll quick sound bite from the president very recently to see if that also defines him and his administration is Roland take office.

The question in this election is which way do we go do we go forward.

Towards a new vision of an America in which prosperity -- -- we go backward.

To the same policies that got us in this mess in the first.

What's now find seized on that expression shared prosperity.

And -- and -- from Matt that this president is a collective missed.

Okay he seized upon I have a certain size he simply wants to re -- us -- -- whereas the Republicans want to grow the -- ago.

That night and general -- -- another it's a little light.

Well it echoes what we just heard echoes a little bit of president's famous exchange in 2008.

With Joe The Plumber.

You know remember when Joe The -- said essentially don't don't come at me with taxes and stuff.

And -- and then candidate Obama said look I -- wanna take your prosperity -- just wanna make it broader and stuff.

Look what we just heard.

Was not a president saying I have a planned to get us out of this -- what we heard.

Is a sort of -- emotional appeal.

To the people.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I'm trying to make it work for everybody as opposed to by the way here is my plan these of the tough things I'm gonna have to do.

So to me it's a way of being emotional without appealing to people's reason.

The funny thing about that is people are voters are desperate to have you appeal to their reason.

They want to think it through with you don't want this endless emotional.

So you think -- bomb Iran if from new wind gets out and -- is an objective critique of where we are well we should be doing you think that favors.

I think being.

And.

Did you write.

Thousand points of light speech -- -- I worked with George H.

W.

Bush as we used to call him did you ask for bond he is.

Convention acceptance speech and 1988 that was this ritual in the long run you Rhode.

I worked on him with him who wish to put -- -- to have come from Africa Patrick would you just stand after a second I've got some other business.
