One day after voting to extend the year and tax cuts for everybody.
House Republicans -- in just over an hour ago a complete overhaul of the tax system.
All of this is lawmakers set to leave Washington for five week summer vacation.
Congressman Tom price Georgia joins me now -- so tell me about this tax reform bill and why you're passing it today.
And Gerri good to be with -- we're passing that appropriate positive tax reform policy because it's important that the American people know.
That there one folks here in Washington are working just as hard as we can and to.
The tax reform as part of getting our economy back on track so we believe that it's important to demonstrate to the American people that there are positive solutions that that will.
Put this economy back on on on the right track and put America back to work.
What you say it's a positive solution bed but why -- -- on the day before vacation when you know the senate turns it down.
Whether only few legislative days that we have left before the before the election and now we've we've been working hard to demonstrate again to the American people that were addressing the real issues that matter and the issues that will help.
Turn this economy around so yesterday it was.
Making certain that we stop the tax hike so that we can create jobs keeping all the rates exactly as they are right now so there's some -- certainty out there in the market and then today.
We provide our vision for the future.
Maintaining have marginal rates of that individual's tax rates don't go up -- we don't increase taxes on small businesses.
Making it so that our corporate tax are large business tax rate is competitive with the industrialized world right now we have the highest tax in the industrialized world.
And then third there's a there's a system called territorial taxation that would allow three to five trillion dollars trillion dollars of money overseas right now to come back to be able to help.
And we -- create jobs and I've been.
-- is that something -- that Mitt Romney the Republican candidate supports.
-- congressman I I have a lot of respect for you -- what you do you sit on important committees.
You sit on ways and means you sit on the Budget Committee -- a Smart guy is Smart Fella.
And I know that you Republicans wanna get on the record with a lot of your good ideas but you know what.
Getting on the record isn't the same thing and getting something done.
Is -- an opportunity.
To be able to go home over summer vacation and tell your constituents.
Yes I pass that bill.
-- it in in fact what we've done is called on senator Reid to to have the senate act on our piece of legislation.
There look we -- that we remain a minority party here in Washington as Republicans we don't control the senate.
And we don't control the White House and it takes a willing partner to be able to have a compromise and come together with a real positive solutions but we don't have that on the other side.
Our leadership today sent a letter this to senator Reid and said.
If you act on our piece of legislation that we will come back to Washington during the August recess during the August break an act on it so that we can move something to the president's desk.
It's the senate that's holding things up whether it's -- hills -- energy plan or or or positive tax policy we're never gonna.
If this economy is -- and when they knew were holding things happen today in fact you voted on whether to go on vacation or not.
And the Democrats said no the Republicans said yes and now the Democrats just moments ago putting out a press release accusing Republicans of cutting.
And running.
Base today that you guys don't wanna get any work done and you say.
I say the American people are smarter than that.
That that this is a routine now adjournment resolution of -- and that they beat their chest and voted it down and that's fine.
But that's the kind of political shenanigans that the American people are sick and tired -- Look if if the senate acts on our piece of legislation which is the next step in the legislative process.
Then we will come back to Washington and get to work with the senate on this positive piece of legislation.
What we understand is that senator -- -- plan taking up the legislation so look there's a lot of people around here in Washington right.
It's going nowhere.
It's frustrating which is why receiving -- watch.
Collier actually it's frustrating to be here and and and participate in this when you know that that that there are wonderful positive solutions that we need to get to and we are a roadblock on the other side.
