-- sweeping severe an unprecedented and action taken today against Penn State university's football program or its handling of the child sex abuse scandal.

The NCAA issued a sixty million dollar fine in the -- banned from post season bowl games for four years the number of scholarships available employers cut from -- five to fifteen.

Fourteen years of Coach Paterno is victories wiped from -- record books NCAA president mark -- explain the purpose of these severe sanctions.

Our goal was not to be just punitive.

But to make sure the university establishes an athletic culture and daily -- -- In which football will never again be placed ahead of educating.

Nurturing and protecting young people.

Joining us now Peter -- national senior writer for fox sports -- computer great to have you here we last time on the very day in which this scandal broke.

It is now would come to resolution.

You're in your impressions on first look NCAA is done and the way in which Penn State's likely to react.

Yeah the NCA was gonna make any sanctions had -- really dropped the hammer and that's what they did a lot of people expected them to band college football from Penn State forget.

They opted not to instead of this quick -- and slam.

This is going to be a slow death for Penn State football on what they do you buy that.

They really re prioritize.

What's important.

For that university and football's gonna take a backseat and they're very severe sanctions will not be good football team so -- -- fund football team to watch.

-- refocus on what's important and that sixty million dollar fine and also that that goes with it would also.

Bowl game -- so.

They usually -- the revenue of the big -- bogus or thirteen million dollars.

-- expenses penalty for Penn State that all goes to the victims and it goes to raising awareness around child molestation.

That and that sixty million represents just about half of the sports budget and stick it does and it's it's.

Roughly the estimated amount of money they would have been bringing in this year and that money does not come at a time taxpayers' dollars that is -- at the university is putting up itself.

It's a big fine.

But it could have been bigger and at this point it's football's gonna live on the school and it's gonna be resurrected at some point but it won't be under the taint of Joseph Paterno -- -- -- Louis freeh report I -- -- use the inscrutable way -- have an -- to avoid using the Louis -- report rather than using.

Infractions a competitor to go on and assess.

This expedited the matter.

Doesn't go far enough in its expiration of the issues at Penn State.

You know eleven days after the for airport you know this -- the sanctions -- I never really surprised about that I think people expect this to be along thorough process for the NCA -- ruled.

But the way they looked at what -- said so thorough investigation we trusted this we thought it was done by a third party -- unbiased.

Why recreate the wheel we believe in this report.

And that's how they acted now there are some in the Penn State community and there are some who feel that.

Maybe that the incision on their own investigation on top of this sort of further investigating this as well because a lot of those conclusions are made in the for airport.

We're considered reasonable conclusions they were not 100%.

Firm conclusions.

Mark I'm I have no one is a bigger college football fan.

But at the same time when I hear as -- expressed himself talked today about.

A student athletes we all understand we all know.

These are athletes students.

And often student is not particularly applicable.

To the job description.

What what.

You know do you think there's a sense that the NC double -- got to get real about who these young men are these young women and other programs.

Who they are and how much they are sacrificing for the university -- of those issues of balance there of those issues of proportion.

-- taking this step to put some proportion.

In -- forward focus for the presidents from all universities what about balances well.

In eight you pull the current on all this and you see how much money he's football programs are making for the university so.

For us to easily say oh well.

You know football -- too much for priority or.

These college coaches are giving too much respect in -- idol worship.

That's easy to say the fact the matter is this is a revenue pumping industry right now on college football makes a lot of money for a lot of schools so.

Yeah yeah we understand that these student athletes they shouldn't be treated like idols in the coaches shouldn't be treated like titles.

But the bottom line is that -- -- of money for these schools so what's hard to come down partially or reorganized re prioritize how we view college sports Dougal and we're out of time.

The NC the what you think is the first step toward.

Actually giving those priorities straight it's a firm decision I like -- I think it's the way to being NCA cannot be faulted on this they really dropped the hammer.

British triggered thank you very much -- -- someone.
