Five days week.
A new study published in the journal nature.
Says current temperatures on not the -- -- -- -- in fact the planet was Hossa join the Roman empire.
So what does that say about all -- so called man made global warming from oil.
Joining us now is Patrick Moore co-founder of Greenpeace on the -- for all the confessions.
Of a Greenpeace dropout Patrick welcome to the show good zillion.
Nice to be Baxter.
Is it would it be true to say -- That's skepticism.
About global warming is on the rise and don't what does that study about the Roman empire being -- Than it is now what was that tell you.
Well certainly skepticism is on the rise largely because we've had fifteen years now flat global temperature with no.
Noticeable increase or decrease and yet we're continuing to put more and more.
Greenhouse gas into the atmosphere and yet this is not having any immediate effect so either it -- either CO2 is not as strong.
A greenhouse gas as people have assumed.
Or are there are other natural factors that are feeding back.
And perhaps -- minimizing the effect of CO2 we've known it was warmer in the Roman times and a thousand years ago in medieval times for a long time now.
The sediments of the -- gas OC provide one of the best proxies as they're called where they measure the ratio of isotopes and various other things.
To determine what the temperature was back in those times.
The tree rings that have been analyzed in Lapland and from -- land in this nature study show that it was warmer 2000 years ago than it is today and indeed between.
Years ago in what's called the -- is seen thermal maximum.
It was three to four degrees warmer than it is today.
You have to go all the way back to the end of the last place aviation.
To find it being colder than it is today and of course all through the the glitzy -- it was colder than it is to David then go back two and a half million years and -- -- hundred million years before that it was much warmer than it is today.
Just to establish -- -- you -- Patrick -- Europe co-founder of Greenpeace and you've you've come.
Well not exactly full so what you've turned around a little bit about -- -- Whitman he's got a question too is all.
Here's my interest I read the same study -- read the nature study by the experts.
And it looks to me like it shows a trend that that the environment has been cooling progressively for the last 2000 years.
The problem I have is it shows over the last 115 years a spike against that trend that is only -- during times -- -- -- -- make history.
So it tells me that that we should be cooling and the fact that we're not is a bit bothersome to me.
I don't think -- you can say that we should be cooling the temperature goes up and down and all kinds of its short and long cycles.
We are now in a period of fifteen years of flat temperature globally.
We do not know and cannot predict like these guys they act as -- computer models are some kind of crystal ball.
We cannot actually predict whether it's gonna stay flat go up a bit more or -- down -- debt it's not possible to do that with a computer model.
But they do have a very clear trend line that they have drawn for 2000 years that shows very deliberate cooling until the last 150 year time period.
And they and the other spikes very clearly correspondent times of known volcanic activity.
-- I just I I look at it -- to -- it makes good sense.
This president warming trend.
Ended with the end of the last little ice age about 250 years ago so it's not only for the last hundred years that there's -- a slight warming trend.
It goes back about 250 years.
Before that the little ice -- and before that the warm period in the medieval.
Times a thousand years ago that a cooling during the dark ages after the Russian Roman empire collapsed and then during the Roman empire considerably warmer time than it is today.
-- -- literally -- seconds left Patrick you telling me I should not be concerned about global warming.
And a lot of other people are telling us the same thing that the catastrophic concept is is not valid.
Climate changes naturally all the time we're in a -- warming trend now who knows whether it will continue I personally hope it does because Canada in my country would be a lot better off if it was a little bit -- -- Patrick Moore is with us and thank you very much -- upcoming -- appreciates -- thank you -- easier.
Not convinced -- and this and no I'm not I -- Patrick -- I went and I respect that but -- facts are facts and and I do think that the way to the scientific communities against him.
Notwithstanding the fact that Al Gore is an opponent I was to the point that it may that we can't believe that the computer models are are are incredibly inaccurate having weird we're corporate Virginia movies -- are gonna move is nothing that the world is gonna end.
And he's actually saying the co-founder bring peace.
You can't trust the science is an imperfect science at two years ago Prince Charles the man who's gonna be king of England -- people.
Good moment debut that's my dog he said we're all gonna don't -- in eighteen months ago and a wrong way out -- only presidents job.
