Let's get to what is kind of -- and exciting spy eighty cents are your -- senses tingling we -- just hours away from the premiere of the new amazing Spiderman movie that's what it's called.
I'm not editorialize and -- I haven't seen that it will be released in 447.
IMAX theatres worldwide.
Joining us now on the Fox Business exclusive IMAX CEO -- -- But it's already open in Europe specifically Russia as well how are those numbers trending coming in.
It opened -- weekend earlier in Europe that in Asia we did very well I mean the film itself did extremely well looked at about fifty million dollars on a limited international release.
An IMAX we approach 50000 a screen.
For the week -- which is very strong numbers for us which gives -- some reason for encouragement about North America.
22 screens in Russia not to see it first get America -- tell -- about the thinking when it comes to opening internationally first quote right now international's -- -- all the money as I mean in general.
About two thirds of the box office is coming from overseas.
You'll to have the problem with piracy overseas so by opening there earlier you but you capitalize on the big box office and also it helps yet.
-- some of the piracy issues fascinating because if there is always a way where you can figure out how to game these things you -- 447.
IMAX theaters.
307 domestic.
Opening -- did not what 1201 to be specific has -- don't be early I don't clearly okay we about but I tell me what you're expecting here.
-- it's always hard in the movie business you know I think most people are saying that the movie's gonna open somewhere between a 125.
And a 135 million dollars that's not me that's what the analysts are saying.
I think it'll be -- not a good on that strong movie I think.
Our core audiences fan boy I think this is designed for -- boys it's a bit of a cooler hipper Spider-Man Marc -- the director.
Brought in a new cast this time and I I think it'll be -- -- I think it's been pretty well and some of that shot with IMAX equipment -- and talk about the ratios on the screen I think this gets really technical but I find it fascinating get that's it that's exactly the point was wasn't shot with -- IMAX cameras.
But the way it was shot our aspect ratio which is higher.
Then more vertical than horizontal.
At the end of the movie the last half hour we'll open it's like an IMAX window opening so the last half hour of the movie I'm -- -- audiences will be able to see it.
In a special way that other audiences can't see it why not a whole movie for Jeff every for the last half hour well I think governor then he is our camera and in -- -- Dark Knight -- our camera.
To film about half of that movie so.
Come back in two and a half weeks we could talk about the outlook OK the Dark Knight will be huge so as we show those -- we also look at James Bond which is coming out in IMAX quality and you look at that you say.
Could this very well be the best summer.
Of -- is history.
I thinks you know yes it could be is is the simple answer.
But I keep going back as the movie business you know see what I believe it with a Dark Knight is already has the highest advance -- sells this far out that we've ever had.
I think it'll be our highest advance ticket sales ever.
So I think it could be but you know that's showbiz let's wait to see -- show business goes all over the world let's talk about Europe you've talked to this -- mentioned certainly that France and Germany would be places for expansion at a time when.
We're seeing such mayhem for their economy.
You know people still need an affordable luxury and -- that's even though it's a premium is an affordable luxury.
You might not go on vacation you might not go to a restaurant but you -- -- let's talk about affordable and not.
We put some numbers together again make the case because standard -- for a family of five or two parents to kids in a friend or two parents of three kids.
For standard -- and we we put these numbers together it's about seventy bucks.
Realty your competitor 8750.
IMAX 3-D about 105 personally I'm an IMAX -- I I always say to my kids will -- an IMAX theatre because I wanna see if there but some people in this economy are you seen the may be.
Sort of -- their wallets a little more tightly not a role is as a matter of fact earlier today we announced our box office for the second quarter.
And it's -- 65%.
From last year's second quarter.
We're up 75%.
Year to date vs last year.
So people may be cutting up back and other areas but not -- -- viewing.
IMAX CEO rich -- fun I'm going tonight I mean because -- a spy chief.
With great power comes great responsibility -- from him -- that -- Will deliver that -- -- Sony's gonna deliver.
Saudi thank god for -- all right thank you very much rich -- on talking with us exclusively saying great numbers already.
In Europe and in overseas so releases as far as --
