Well it's a question you've heard before.

But thanks to a recent cover story in Atlantic monthly magazine were asking it again today.

Can women have -- all and does this question still huge big asked.

Joining me now -- -- news editor for town hall dot com and pundit writer and activist Sally comes out I'm gonna start with you can women have at all what do you -- I mean.

I have to say I do you think it's a very provocative question.

But it's increasingly outdated and I especially think frankly in our economy in our country today.

Nobody can happen -- I -- part of the problem with our economy part of the problem America -- -- broken.

Of very very few number of people small number of men and women can have it all and for the rest were all struggling for the crumbs no matter what your gender Katie what do you say.

I would say it depends on what having it all really means I think for the past forty years women have been boxed into this idea -- having it all doesn't necessarily mean actually having at all.

It means having a big career and leaving your family behind but the good news is that now -- is there's a choice you can stay -- what your family.

Or if you go out have a career now but I'm -- sad I think there's an issue with the way the American economy runs the -- their lifestyles -- our required to -- comes.

Not to mention we're working really hard for the rest of the world are people and you're out can have vacation time.

Well we are the most productive economy.

In the whole world that's actually -- We know what occurs to me did you say this is a dated -- -- we've been asking this let me arrest can -- have at all well not they don't that's right and look I actually disagreement that the -- is.

When women are forced to try and have it all right now right so we're forced to have to have jobs in our economy.

For S productivity is up but wages are going down we need to income -- most films can use reporting comes that they can get it.

So so you're exactly right and and the reality is though.

Actually do think more and more men are struggling with us as well the looking at the fact that you know -- working harder and harder for less and less money.

They're trying to chip -- at home and they're trying to -- bringing box.

They are all struggling with the issues women have struggled with for generations.

King would be when you look at this when you -- it apart it -- having this is something big that cropped up may be twenty years ago maybe thirty years ago we were talking about this issue.

To me it feels like.

Old school you know like -- the people could have a dollar the people who for afford a full time nanny.

Or it's people who absolutely have to have both of those jobs and they just have to make it work no matter what at the end of the day it's really.

Is it really doesn't apply anymore doesn't.

I think it got to think there are pressures still for women to go out in the workplace and then have a high -- career I think that's true but in terms of the question about what you -- with men.

I think may be asking man whether they would like to maybe stay home with the kids Bob mom goes out houses Hyperic -- would be.

A question because for the past forty years -- have been the ones responsible.

In some cases to go out via the breadwinner while moms stay at home now got a problem though -- a personal choice but in terms of how the at all.

-- and I can you -- cutting and I wouldn't say please please go work.

I'd love this -- I don't know you know let me just I've become accustomed.

I can't but -- did you.

It's and and you are showing this to go out in the -- -- than and it comes down -- individuals do you wanna go out have a career do you wanna.

Maybe tighter budget and that's something where you're you're living on one income it really just depends on how your family structure works.

And what works for you know where you want to spend your time it doesn't come down to what you stereotypical norms are.

A we've broken through that along time ago pick out pick you gotta disagree I don't think we have any choices anymore I mean right outlook a lot of men and women would -- to stay home.

And and -- -- of implying I think.

That set a dangerous feminist -- we've suggested -- to be a good woman you have to go out have a successful career.

You know I think that's you know it's feminine and -- -- strong resolutely that -- on the right.

I'm sorry love but the fact quite a feminist and every woman I've ever known from Gloria Steinem on -- was women should have to -- itself women want to -- -- -- -- -- -- ally in the shadow.

-- choice is that.

They -- there's one way to deal with the problem with -- is the same problem with sexism that they.

Have one kind of stereo -- that you they want you to be Katie do you agree.

I I agree with you Jerry and that's speaking out women who have at -- O'Donnell wallet career and family -- -- -- -- -- -- Sarah Palin.

As an example of feminism what you guys -- Sarah Palin doesn't let you don't see it on me annex C Michelle -- mentioned in the mail glorious -- -- Michelle Bachmann has someone who has been a lot of hot at all even though she's got.

I believe it's nineteen Foster children and that's highly successful career -- -- I let fly -- out I don't know I can't let words and glorious amounts but actually she has stood up -- Sarah Palin and her career as examples of feminism it's Sarah Palin hasn't been -- grateful to feminism look again.

You put in the words of Malcolm all the feminists the defendants in those women should have choices bishop choices in the economy bishop choices at home those choices shouldn't be to -- -- gender -- well it's changed that some people think this comes.

Great conversation I don't know it's an interesting article a lot of people are talking about it thanks for coming on tonight really appreciate your time that thing DO.
