That a California.
Support for governor Brown's plan to raise taxes is falling here's the latest poll.
Now 36% in California voters on now against the tax hike plan.
59%.
Approve of raising taxes not cost that is still a clear a majority but opposition to raising taxes is growing.
Our next guest says that you cannot trust most California polls it's not as bad -- -- as we think.
-- dandruff from a from -- a strategist joins us from Sacramento so it's.
-- take the position that raising taxes in California is a bad thing not the right thing to do.
So if they're not so keen on raising taxes I consider that to be good news and that there may be seeing the launch.
Why do you think the polls are skewed left in California.
Well let's take for instance the LA times poll that came out in March that they originally said -- 64% of California voters supported governor Brown's tax hike initiative well.
When you drill things down first of all the methodology was flawed because they didn't poll of likely voters.
And the question we -- was merely -- what the push poll which basically ask the question.
It would you support governor Brown's tax hike initiative if the money went to save public education well you know.
You get that kind of answer that -- Basically the biggest set up since the quiz show scandals from back in the 1950s why did they do -- why is -- that they -- these things to the left.
To almost all the time because the prevailing picture that we get the California is that is way out now on the left all ways.
Well I think part of it is wish fulfillment by the mainstream media and some of the pollsters -- that would really like to see California returned to an age of of of that the Golden State that I think many people.
Have always thought of California to be but the good news in all these Stewart is -- fact that the last seven tax hike initiatives.
Despite the fact that they polled well in the beginning all went down to defeat and there was another one that just happened a couple of weeks ago these new tobacco tax and had Lance Armstrong it's his celebrity spokesperson.
Looks like that's going down to defeat to -- and when voters start seeing the details.
About how much money they're gonna end up -- paying out -- pocket.
That they end up turning down these tax did you think it would be fat -- -- that California is seeing the -- and again I'm coming from position that's -- California is in dire financial straits and can no longer afford.
All these taxes and the bureaucracy and environmental rules.
Dick do you think that California is finally beginning to see the light.
Well I think that there are small pockets of hope amidst all of that -- the insanity that's been going on here for years and California.
You know this back during the June primary.
Pension reform initiatives in both San Jose and San Diego were approved.
It looks like -- number of cities including Stockton have may -- indication that they're gonna file for bankruptcy because they can no longer handle.
But the pension benefit payments that are coming out -- so I think eventually.
A California voters not only turning down this tax -- initiative in in November but I think a number of the the officials in California starting to realize.
That we've gone past the point of no return and -- we wanna drive over the cliff we've got to turn around quickly.
I've got thirty seconds of one Alaska last question -- I'm pretty sure the President Obama will win the California.
A lot of people say he'll get 60% of the vote what do you food -- attacked what -- kind of proportion of vote.
Think you'll get.
I think it be somewhere in the mid fifties I think they'll be -- -- union turnout because -- a couple of initiatives that also are not directly affecting their ability to maintain power here in California but Republicans are gonna be out in force to try to drive down this vote.
