Cut back on everything else in our federal budget can America really afford a cut back or eliminate space exploration altogether.

The first man to perform a successful spacewalk and the second man to walk on the moon doesn't believe we can.

Leave -- space exploration -- -- the questions are where do we -- how do we pay for legendary astronaut Buzz -- joining us out of Fox Business exclusive.

To talk about the future of space travel doctor -- and wonderful to see again thanks for coming in appreciate it.

Thank you David it's a pleasure out to be here talking with you today so first question where do you think we should be going.

Well we were talking about an ultimate objective.

Of Mars and I think we need to get a bit more specific.

Then that an option that was entitled a flexible path.

I think we need to get a whole lot more specific.

And outline the steps necessary.

Two -- -- the ultimate objective that has been quoted so many times.

Of lending Americans on the surface of Mars.

Now is that a project that it's it seems like you think back to JFK and and his speech back in the sixties saying we're gonna put a minimum we did it took about ten years.

He does is it as sort of a national imperative that would take.

A full -- government program to do or could -- be done in a private sector.

-- will be done on the private sector that's that's for sure it's it's rather strange that the private sector.

Seems to be more supported.

By that.

Democrat party and -- government way of doing things seems to be more supported.

By the Republican Party but let me not dwell on that rate now.

Let -- let me hypothesize.

A little bit into the future.

Let's take the fiftieth anniversary.

Of landing on the moon.

That's and twenty in nineteen.

Depending on the election that may be the second term of governor Romney.

He may have had an opportunity.

At the 55 anniversary.

Of Kennedy's speech.

To say that if you reelect me.

I we'll have a very important announcement to make.

On the fiftieth anniversary of landing on the moon as to the future of our space program and I might sound something like this.

I believe that this nation should commit itself within.

Two decades.

To establish permanent on the planet Mars pioneered by Americans.

While.

Permanently -- -- that did you say permanent site age you know anybody that would volunteer to stay there refer current.

Extended length of time -- that's a tough role.

Abs absolutely would you like to issue a a request for.

Talented people who might expect.

To be so elected to do that kind of a mission and have them volunteered to fox a business and I think yeah.

Yeah you're all right response you know we have to face -- we have a FaceBook page and then and organized challenger our viewers right now to put that up for the FaceBook page if you'd like to -- -- get in touch with.

-- alternate Natalia tell you how to go about it let me just ask so the only.

Politician that I've heard really talk about that seriously.

Was Newt Gingrich and of course he lost the you know.

On the nomination and now he's talked W well there is they have I must admit somebody.

Now he was talking about occupancy.

By large numbers of people on the surface of the moon okay.

But who is -- black politician is talking about this.

Buzz Aldrin.

You should be running for president and buzz.

Not not -- I'm talking to other politicians.

Who will be running for president.

In this November.

Can you don't tell you tell -- filling out.

Well I believe it's gonna be President Obama.

And governor Romney so they both have have shown some interest in what you propose.

I believe so I believe that.

President Obama.

Canceled the Constellation.

Program.

Which was put forth previously to land.

NASA astronauts on the moon by 20/20 which proved to be absolutely impossible to do -- And I think that by the time US.

Astronauts not commercial people now US astronauts.

Could get to the moon they would be greeted by Chinese.

And all the money expanded on sending Americans back to the moon.

Would be.

At the expense.

Of allowing the Russians to make a mad dash.

For Mars to establish a first.

Interest and I believe they're fully capable.

Doing that.

Despite the radiation.

Hazards it seem to -- concerned many people right now.

Doctor -- we got to got to leave it that we've literally run out of time but you know a lot of what you say sounds sounds like it's science fiction but you never know these these things could play out Buzz -- a pleasure and an honor to see you again sir thanks for being here.

OK I'd like to go into more detail next with we'd love or we'd love to have you back we'd love to have you back please do surely do that and and -- I just waited -- so everybody knows I just -- -- -- challenge to -- Fox Business viewers you who among you feels that you would like to help at least get to Mars and colonize it.

We'll get it will continue to buzz somehow I'm sure other people out there like to do thank you book buzz -- not --
