President Obama sticking to his plan of attacking Mitt Romney and his role at Bain Capital but here's the question.
Is the present strategy walking.
Brosseau from the Wall Street Journal joins us from Washington DC when I asked that question -- easy walking I'm asking a political question.
Is it bringing in votes and support for the president.
Mr.
I don't necessarily think it is and for a number of reasons I think one of the -- you know they've been running these case studies of companies that -- -- and and some of them went bankrupt the suggestion being that -- has gone in and and strapped to worth out of these companies but as reporters -- looked into it turns out that these stories are are more complicated so.
That's undercut them you've had a lot of Democrats who've come out and said.
That themselves that they don't necessarily think these attacks on private equity are good -- you've had to have the campaign trying to backtrack the bitten.
Try to distinguish between attacks -- -- -- attacks on private equity.
And and that hasn't helped as well also doesn't Democrats I think are beginning to wonder what's the -- strategy here why is he not talking about what he's going to do in the second term.
Why is he focused on Mitt Romney's past okay.
Now I want to show you a brief clip from an added that governor Romney is running in response this is an attack on the presence woke with Solyndra -- President Obama is spending your tax dollars to create jobs and is -- doing.
You've heard of Solyndra.
They took 535.
Million dollars in taxpayer loan guarantees through and went back.
Obama is giving tax -- money to big -- Watching music.
-- Well that's the counterattack from the from the opposite direction what's your judgment on that.
I think this is the other problem for the president which is if he's gonna go out and say.
There's something particularly wrong with Mitt Romney is form of capitalism with free market enterprise that somehow this.
Leads you to the wrong lessons and it makes you ill suited for the presidency.
-- -- the Romney campaign's attack back as you -- -- is going to be wait a minute wait a minute what's your preferred form of capitalism -- that war.
And and it seems to be spending a lot of taxpayer dollars on things like so lender out or the Detroit bailouts.
You can are you still end up with a lot of bankruptcies a lot of layoffs.
-- you also end up with crony capitalism.
Money going to donors and all of the things that come with government being involved with the private sector.
You seem to be saying that didn't -- with these issues Solyndra Bain Capital the president seems to have the edge.
Not that let me move on to another up -- that the president has been using that I am not a big spend up.
He's picking up on that Rex not things report that we have last week and the president -- I am not a big spend -- you think back resonates politically.
-- I think it's impossible how can anyone.
Look at the deficits that are out there and he can say -- he inherited this but the problem every -- that goes on.
This is administration in -- it's harder for them the claim that they don't own what's happening in the economy.
And the Republicans are gonna -- lot of make the argument that there -- efforts to cots have been largely met with resistance that you have Democrats that are standing on the principle that they're not going to cut anymore unless they also get tax hikes.
An end in so just -- stimulus alone of course he looks like a big spender he's gonna make that case but it's a hard one to me going.
Forward I just wonder what what what kind of country we -- do all we still very much of private enterprise society.
Or are we drifted more toward we want government help society.
I guess that's what this is all about -- him.
Quiet and I think that we'll -- this is the going to be that that challenge for Mitt Romney because.
If you talk about things like Solyndra if you talk about things like the -- -- bailouts Americans don't like that they do you understand the problems of government being involved in government spending a lot of money in interfering with private sector business.
And the same time.
It Mitt Romney doesn't stand up and also answer some of the complaints -- the criticisms of the president has been leveling a free market enterprise it.
And the idea of the wealthy just making money leaving others behind if he doesn't try to explain how what actually works.
That is a big criticism left unanswered -- it could sway some American -- As fast thing.
Can distrustful thanks so much for being with us today we do appreciate it thank you can thank story.
